Venue: Waverley Christian College, 1248 High Street Road, Wantirna South, Victoria, Australia
Time: Every Wednesday 7:30pm-10:00pm
Level: For Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Skills
Trainees Intake: Maximum of 12 trainees only.

CCC Badminton Club was formed in the hope that it will help more people to enjoy playing badminton.

CCC Badminton Club
has 2 objectives:

1. To help those who are beginners to get to know the game quicker.
2. To provide experienced players with a venue to train.

Our CCC Friday Social (max 32 players only) = Concentrate on Playing Games.
The PLAYING OF GAMES is the only activity involved in this session.

Our CCC Wednesday CATS (max 12 trainees only) = Concentrate on Learning Skills & Perfecting Strokes.
In this session, COACHING AND TRAINING are the main activities involved, with a few PRACTICE GAMES being played at the end of the session.

COACHING is performed by Mr Chris Hoh who has over 20 years of badminton coaching experience, yet is innovative in his coaching techniques. You will receive invaluable information/instruction/demonstration of different SKILLS from him.

Chris' coaching course is a structured program, with 20 chapters involved. And the Chapter of the Week is taught in a strict order of application. The session is conducted in a formal learning environment.

TRAINING is performed by doing DRILLS (repetitious exercises) to perfect your strokes and footwork. You will be doing drills suggested by Chris, the best drills related to the Chapter of the Week.

PLEASE NOTE: Chris does not provide Circuit (Physical) Training.
Chris is only qualified for Badminton Coaching. He believes that for Circuit Training, such as; steps, trunk curls, squat jumps, press-ups, pull-ups, squat thrusts, etc, it is better for you to employ a qualified gym instructor.

WEDNESDAY CATS Session is conducted as follows:
7:30 pm to 8:00 pm Warm-up Drills and Warm-up Footwork (Dancing)
8:00 pm to 8:30pm Learning the Chapter of the Week
8:30 pm to 9:00pm Practising the Chapter of the Week
9:00 pm to 9:30pm Drills for the Chapter of the Week
9:30pm to 10:00pm Playing Games using the Chapter of the Week

Payment Structure
A different fee structure (different from our Friday Social) will apply. The calculations will be based on Chris' professional coaching fees. It would be $15 or $20 for the 2.5hr session.
For regular trainees, it is $15 per session.
For casual trainees, it is $20 per session(but casual trainees are to ask if there are vacancies available, since we do not accept more than 12 trainees).

BTW, Chris' coaching fees for Private Coaching (1-on-1) is set at $30 per hour. This does not include court hire.

If you do not wish to join the Forum @BadmintonCentral, you can email us direct: chris@cccbadminton.com
We will send you 3 Attachments; namely our Address/Map of the Venue, our CATS Program and our Enrollment Form.

PS: Our venue has 4 courts.
On Wednesday, 3 courts are used for CATS and 1 for friends/parents/drivers to play Social Games.
On Friday, all 4 courts are used for Social Games.
========================

Trainees are to have their courts for the full 2.5 hours

A question was asked by one of our trainees who is repeating the CATS Program of 20 Chapters.

Question: If I am happy with my Overhead Clears (one of the chapters), and if the Chapter of the Week is on the Overhead Clears, can I do something else?

Answer: If you are happy with your skills for the Chapter of the Week, you are welcomed to practise other skills during the session.

You have your court for the full 2.5 hours and you can choose whatever practice you wish
. However, you have to find another trainee who would be willing to be your practice/drill partner.

But I always say “Don't just think of the stroke production in isolation”.

You might be able to do a good Overhead Clear when the shuttle is being hit to where you are standing. But if you cannot do a good Overhead Clear when the shuttle is being hit to position away from you, then you have not mastered the Overhead Clear.

So, what I am saying is “You must think of stroke production together with the necessary footwork involved”.

However, if you can return a good Overhead Clear, whether a shot is hit to you as a Defensive Clear or an Attacking Clear and whether that shot is hit to a position away from you, then I don't see any reason why you have to go through that chapter again. If you have mastered the subject matter of the chapter, you are encouraged to practise your other strokes/skills.

But don't fall into a trap, for example, of practising the Dab when we are doing the Overhead Clear, and then later practising the Overhead Clear when we are doing the Dab.
========================

I have received several emails asking for our CATS Program.

Report for Wednesday(7:30pm-10:00pm) 30-Aug-2006: Chapter 6

Greetings,

For those who were absent, here is a report;

Attendance: CATS=8(Regulars=8, Casuals/Drop-Ins=0), WED SOCIAL=7.

CATS
Welcoming first time to CATS @Glen Waverley: Mei-W, Matthew-S.

Lesson: Chapter 6 = OH Clear (Defensive Clear).
Drill Partners: Carole & Mei, Wesley & Morgan, hkhung & helmut, TzeKin & Matthew.

Trainees were told to jot down notes on what was instructed/demonstrated in the lesson/chapter. This will help trainees to mentally revise(at home) the material taught. The jotted notes will become invaluable information in months/years to come.

As you have read from our threads, I am behind schedule/time, so give me some time before I make notes to help you to remember our Chapter 6.

WED SOCIAL
Because only 2 courts were used for CATS, the other 2 courts were used for WED SOCIAL.

Cheers... chris@ccc

To Chris and all CCC CATS trainee:

I have been meaning to ask you this question while in relation to training footwork for quite sometime

- in the bexercise, the rhythm of the music is 1, 2, 3, 4 pause then hit, 2, 3, 4 but in reality you encourage we would have to do 1 2 3 4 with much rapid pace then a much bigger pause for getting ready for the shuttle to come down.

- Likewise, a couple of weeks ago we were using bexcercise to train for smash drill. In relation to the previous point, I imagine while doing one clear, then the next steps (back - 2) would have to be a much faster pace because we have to get ready to block smashed and that can only be done if we are ready.

Hence in bexcercise, once we get used to the pace of the breathing, do you encourage us to do the steps with a much faster pace in relation to a gaming situation?

this is just my opinion, and please correct if I am wrong!
regarding to hkhung question! the rhythm exercise is just a way for us to get used to the footwork rtythm! in a real game situation, u will need to get back in to the middle of the court as soon as u can no matter after u go to the front for clear or go to the back of the court to smash in order to get ready for the next shot!
I believe u need to move a lot faster when u do a drop shot (corse drop shot) from the back of the court!

I understand that so what's your opinion on training for footwork, realistic pace (1+2+3+4 with a big gap for getting ready) or normally (1 2 3 4 with a much shorter pause)
