i have a raquet with a dirty grip tape.. it's the original grip tape (i didn't wrap it).. is there a way to clean that grip tape, or am i better off buying new grip tape and wrap over the dirty one??
I like thick grips (thinner ones have problems with fingers and nails troubling your hand sometimes and the wrist has no power), there is a subtle difference between what you like and what is good for your wrist and game, its actually how you are habituated to the grip size. I use to have more and more grips (change or usually add every one-two months) onto the older ones as some how the overall grip felt having become thinner, I think the sweat will cause the initial grip size to get thinner from thicker initially, I have a really strong grip too. When the grip is close to thick I have the new grip realllly tight on to the older ones. Unless the grip is too thicker I dont remove the older ones and start afresh with atlest two tightly wound grips.
beter off getting a new one for sure, you can't really clean the dirt off of it, and its tackyness is already gone.
i personally love using worn out grips. when i get a new grip, i purposely try to wear it out faster so i can get that old grip feeling.
Grips get dirty wheteher you like it or not. The grip gets dirt on it from your hand which gets dirty from the shuttle that u pick up off the floor.after 2hours of play my nice yellow grip was dirty. Just get a new one and replace it every few weeks.
yes they get dirty eventually, but that doesn't mean you can lengthen the time they are clean, scooping the shuttle is probably cleaner then just picking it up and easier too, my grips are clean for about a week if i'm careful.
I have found WD40 has many uses in badminton. Cleaning the grip is another possible use, although I haven't tried it.
This is not a great idea: you should avoid significant skin exposure to oils like WD40, because they are carcinogenic (that's why many fuel stations offer disposable plastic gloves). Using it to oil bits of machinery is reasonably safe, though ideally you would wear protective gloves; using it on your grip tape seems rather reckless to me. Even if you try to wipe it off afterwards, much of the WD40 will have impregnated the grip material. Just buy a new grip. Overgrips are great if you don't like the hassle of changing replacement grips.
We all die from something eventually. Perhaps WD40 will be my undoing. If there is health risk using this stuff, I withdraw my previous comment. Coincidently, I spent last night impregnating my string with the stuff because my latest ultra low tension wasn't low enough. The result was rather satisfactory today having smashed the hell out of my opponents and won 2 games out of 3 in a match. For some perculiar reason, I can't help seeing the racket and it's components as a mechanical device and get the urge to apply plenty of lubricant.
Yes, we all die of something; but most of us have no desire to hasten the process I don't think WD40 is highly carcinogenic (nothing like smoking, say), but it's worth avoiding unnecessary contact. I suspect your performance is the result of playing well, rather than WD40, but whatever floats your boat. Sounds pretty bonkers to me
