To everyone especially those from China: I am 李宗偉,not 李崇偉!

更新: September 25, 2006 17:49
Sorry kwun.Don't know where to post it exactly. Just want to correct everyone abt LCW's chinese name.

no problem. it is in the right place.
as for translation, it is basically LCW trying to clarify the proper Chinese character to use for the "Chong" in his name. i don't know if the article can be translated at all.

Oh, good to know... Finally LCW speaks out about this.
He's saying that his name in Chinese pinyin should be:
Li3 Zhong1 Wei3
But in cantonese/hokkien (I believe it is?), it's Lee Chong Wei.

It's good to hear LCW clear this up. I've been confused about this from reading conflicting rendering of his name I saw on Chinese web sites.
Actually this may be a problem for other athletes with Chinese names. I've seen 'Ling' of Gao Ling's name rendered in 3 different ways. I assume the one with 'mountain' is correct.

ai... perhaps this is another example of the ill effect of the simplified chinese made popular by the communist government.
I hope someday China will revert back to Traditional Chinese Characters to restore the true chinese language. We have lost enough already.

Luckily he finally clarified this, I was very confused by the CCTV people for keep calling him Li3 Chong2 Wei3, although it didn't sound that bad, but bad enough if you mis-pronounced people's name.

Fujian has many diverse Fujian dialects. Lin Dan and Chen Hong are Fujianese and they can speak mandarin pretty well, although they are of Hakka descent. Two Fujian dialects, Foochow and Amoy, are as different from each other as Hindi is from Cantonese.

Surely this is an exaggeration! But we are off topic, so I won't talk about language lineages...

I speak a variation of the Amoy dialect and a younger Fujianese, born a Fujian Hakka at the same place as Chen Hong, but who speaks Foochow, simply cannot understand one single word of what the other says. As he is married to a HK woman who speaks the Amoy dialect he has now learned to speak it. Amoy is the only dialect I can communicate with him. He is excellent in mandarin, which I try to avoid when speaking with him.
