Interesting... I you're the third person I know who has the exact same combination of hobbies.. That includes me...
But I would amend the above a little as I think my scenario for costs though similar is slightly different
( In order left to right, most to least)
initial costs: cycling >>>> photography>> badminton
I started out with badminton then cycling. BOth way many more years before photography. So, I spent a whole lot more on bikes and equipment before cameras and lenses came along.
ongoing costs: badminton > cycling > photography
Well, if I play 2~3 sessions a week as I did some years ago, badminton costs a whole lot more compared to cycling unless for the rare occasion of bad tyres and punctures. My 1 year's maintenance on a bike is less than I would spend on shuttles! Photography is more of the electricity bills spent on charging the batteries, editing pictures on the PC and to run the dry cabinet
susceptibility to upgrades: cycling > photography >>>> badminton
Yes, hardly more than a month goes by without some new gadget on the bike. But I've not spent on any serious camera equipment (of any sort) in well over 6 months since the 5DmkII.
And this weekend is the major upgrade for the bike in a while : Di2 !!
I've not 'upgraded' anything on badminton in almost 3 years!

good point about electricity costs. i forgot to take those into account.
to combine all 3 hobbies, i cycled to a badminton session then afterwards watched a bike race where i took some photos of brad wiggins (in the yellow jersey).

Maybe not quite 'alternative' enough, but a slightly 'stretched' one...

Let me re-phrase myself "widest rectilinear AF lens you can find" ... and mount onto a Canon full-frame...
