nobody can deny. technology helps us a lot. i mean with the right gear on the right scene. everyone can be a pretty good photographer.
by the way. here is a picture that i took 2 days ago outside my window. i don't know why i took it coz, instead of shooting my cats. i hardly pick up my gear for non-assignment! kinda lazy perhaps hehe.....

Fantastic shot, Red! Did you do any editing to it? I thought the flash should be more brilliant? The timing must be absolutely spot on, as the lightning flash will just disappear in a split-second?

Is this a sort of random shoot, without any preparation? How did you do it? Technicals?

yes i did. but the only thing i did was dodging the foreground with photoshop. coz the brightness difference between buildings and that thunderbolt was around 2 1/2 stops.(i know coz i got an experimental shot few minutes before i took that shot.) so my setting was aiming for the thunderbolt itself. as a result, buildings were underexposed.
in fact, that shot was pretty straight forward. the only preparation was a tripod.

the duration of lightning was roughly 1/2 second. may be longer sometimes and that's more the enough time for us to capture it.
my setting was iso400, f/4, 1/25 sec.
u gotta try it yourself next time. it's fun!

dont' climb a mountain while there is a thunderstorm!

Last evening I was attracted to the distant sounds of the Teochew opera. I stopped by the open-air stage just to take a look. A huge tent was erected by the side to house the different idols and where the worshippers could make their offerings of incense and pray to the gods. Whilst the children played with lanterns and light fireworks,the mid-Autumn festval is currently celebrated more seriously by the more religious segment of the Chinese community in this housing estate.

Then the noisy big drums banged and the cymbals struck to usher in the Lion Dancers. Not long after they'd finished the Dragon Dancers made their presence felt even more. The long-suffering Chinese opera had to stop their performance during these intrusions by their more boisterous dancing counterparts.

Naturally I tried to capture as much of the scene with my Nikon D70 wide-angle lens. It was easy taking shots of the opera performers on stage but the Lion and Dragon dancing proved to be more challenging.

Standing static with my camera setting at Program Mode, Auto-focus, Image quality: "normal", White balance: Direct Sunlight (I find this gives a more natural colour), and ISO: 1600, I just shot away moving only my body to target my image without flash and very little left in the battery.

Here is what I captured for the Lion Dance, never expecting such a result for all the movements before my eyes :

Dear Loh! Your captures of the dragon dance are fantastic! You know what? I've went to S'pore during end of Sept! Actually I wanted to go to China Town for Sze Chuan cuisine, but somehow, I'm so lucky that I have the chance to see such a grand Mid-Autumm festival performance in Spore! Traffic Jam, Man!! haha...though, after my dinner I wish to join the crowd to watch the performance, I'm too short to view.....

thousand of people gathering along the road and performance stage, and I can't see anything but just hearing all kinds of 'boom and bang's sound......haha...thanks for your photos here!!!! there are great!!

the shot of the lightning is fantastic! Excellent! Amazing!!!! It's not just the lightning that attracted me! Somehow, this photo is not just showing the lightning, but the famous HK night view!!!!! you are great!! I'm planning to come to HK end of this year during X'mas....haha...in fact, I wish to go to HK for such a long time already! you taken this photo just outside your window? so, u mean that your room has a nice HK view!! haha.....so enjoyable!

thanks tracyleesy. but in fact that view outside my window wasn't the one that u have seen on post card. the place that i live is shatin.
for the real famous hk night. u can view it from the victoria peak on the hk island. it should be far more better than the pic that i posted here and u gonna love it!
