Generally, they can cause damage to your ankles if they're too heavy.

They are not meant to be used with impact sports. I've seen martial artists use them a lot, but they don't jerk their legs, only swing them in smooth arcs.

If you're thinking of wearing them and playing badminton, I'd advise you start with the lightest ones you can get.

yup. thinking of putting maybe extra 250 grams to 0.5kg extra on each side while playing. just a little extra weight to put some extra exercise onto my legs.

Ankle weight will definitely hurt your game.

First of all it puts extra stress to ankle only, so you can easily hurt your ankle and tendon.

It will also slow you down and mess up your timing when you take off the ankle weight.

If you want to get stronger, wear weight vest but wear it only to do footwork drill. At least this way you wouldn't mess up your timing.

    Good luck.

Ankle wieght are good for drills but you should never where them in a game situation
In a drill you know what your legs are doing and you are focusing on getting a smooth action and fast movement. In a game your trying to return the birdie-however which way possible. Using wieghts in a game will likely hurt you.
On top of that, never use more than 5lbs each leg; unless youre a tank and dont mind maybe getting hurt.

I wore ankle weights once, didn't work out so well.
My knees were hurting for a month after I ran like....15 minutes in them.
Plus my ankels got really itchy and sweaty....quite uncomfortable :p
From what I hear, ankle weights can put too much stress on your joints because you are suddenly making your leg is heavier :D
