Hi, I'm looking for some advise on tensioning the last main string. Whenever I finish tying the knot, the last main string feels too loose(probably 3 pounds less). I've tried adding 3 extra pounds when stringing the last main string, but still feels loose after tying the knot and releasing the tensioner. I use a fly clamp on a drop weight machine. Any advised is apreciated, thanks.
1. put 2-3 lbs more on the last main if you prefer 2. Try to tie the knot at the gromments it suggested in the string pattern (for most yonex, it's B8). 3. Before tying the knots, pull the string tail with a bit force, to "pre-stretch" it. 4. If working with fairly high tension, use 2 flying clamps, instead of 1
I absoutly hate drop weight machines. It takes so much longer to get a good string job than that of a spring activated machine. All I can say is good luck!! Toddster
Yeap, drop-weight machine is absolutely slow but the tension is true compared to a well calibrated crank.
As the outer-most mains or crosses are not locked-in on both sides, they are supposed to be loose. Next time when you string, after the mains are done and before you weave on the crosses, use your finger to poke the strings and ask yourself why they are so loose. The answer will give you a clue on why the outer-most strings appear loose on a completed string job.
CoolDoo6, they are loose because of lower tension. Do you have another clue? I've already added 3 extra pounds on the last main string before tying the knot. Do you suggest I try putting on 6 extra pounds, I'm worry it might break the racket.
6 lbs is way too much of an over kill, and the string/racket are in danger, if you original tension is already high.
Drop weight is more consistent than cranking machine. Cranking machine is more on the "speed" (e.g. you have a pro shop), while drop weight gives you more accurate result. For business concern, time is $$$. For us fanatics, a decent job takes extra 20 min well worth it. Plus, drop weight machine gives you the "feeling" of tension when you try to pull tension. I consider it's an achivement when you work on it.
Hi Double, Cooldoo6 was right. Here is my take on this. The last main is actually being pulled @right rtension. Due to the location of the last main and stringing pattern (stringing main 11 then main 10) the tension feel less. but they are not. Here is a experiment I would like to suggest for you. After you string main 1 and main 2, feel the tension on those 2. After you string main 6 and main 7, feel main 1 and main again, you might feel tension is less now on 1&2. What I will suggest you to do is use 2 clamps like LB said on the last main. Good luck.
In line with BC's tradition, I would like to remind everybody that how you drop the weight is completely individual. Different people have different way of dropping the weight. It is best that you try dropping the weight on somebody else's machines to see how it feels before doing it on your own machine.
