bg 80 good or bad?

BG-80 is a solid-performance string with thicker diameter, which certainly lasts longer than BG-85.

 

First-rate for me. It's one of the Top 3 strings for me for a combination of performance and (moderate) durability. I recently switched Mona Santoso over, she loves the string. Prior she was using BG66 but it was breaking too fast.

For me, BG80 is a near ideal combination of performance and durability. Ashaway MicroPower maybe right there as well, I need to try it some more.

Yeah, BG80 is a really nice string. To date, I have tried BG65, 66, 68 Ti, 70 Pro, 75 Ti, 80, 85, and 88 Ti. BG80 is definitely the best overall for me.

BG65 = Cheap, but felt "dead"; loses tension fast.
BG66 = Poor durability.
BG68 Ti = Makes a nice high pitch "ping" sound. Havn't used it enough to say any more
BG70 Pro= Used to use this a lot. Pretty durable, holds tension well but not much feel and harder to get power.
BG75 Ti = High repulsion, but string felt "slippery". My shots were all over the place. Expensive.
BG85 = Nice string. Despite it's questionable durability, I'm tempted to use it more.
BG88 Ti = less repulsion than 80. Feels a bit like BG70 Pro but much better control. nice, but expensive.
BG80 = Decent durability. Plenty of power. At higher tensions it is easier to use at the net. Not too expensive. Always trying to try out new stuff, but for now this is my string of choice.

same goes here i've used bg65 at first but then i decided to try a more powerfull string, i searched the forum and bg80 seems to be the most populare for good reasons

 

I don't use BG85 nor BG66, given they are thinner strings, as I gussed they'd be less suitable for me. (Given I'm not much of a hard-hitter, but I have to use nylon shuttles given my budget).

I've had 2 racquets strung in BG80: both have retained tension well; I find they're more 'grippy' (a good thing in my opinion) than BG68Ti I used to use; it's a bit more powerful than BG68Ti; and I believe BG80 to be more 'consistent' at different tensions, when compared to BG68Ti. - e.g. BG80 works well at low, mid, and high tensions. BG68Ti worked better for me at mid/high tensions.

 

I like BG85 for the feeling. Since I do not break string like Sir DinksALot. I use BG85 only. My friedns who hits much harder like BG80 because the beter sound and durability. My personal feeing about the power is about the same between BG80 and 85.

 

bg80 is first class, the most durable performing string, from yonex at least...

bot 66 and 85 are less durable, and 68ti doesn't perform as well...

personally bg85 plays a tad better, but loses tension faster, and breaks quicker (you can actually see bg85 wear through slowly) while bg80 stays perfect until the last hit, and suddenly snaps (at 24lbs..)

 

BG-80 is my favorite string, it lasts long, powerful, and it holds tension, I string my AT800OF rackets at 29 lbs, and sometimes 30 lbs.

Compared to BG-66, I feel that BG-80 is more powerful, it's more expensive than BG-66, but it last much longer.

 

This thread should not be whether or not BG80 is good or bad but rather whether not BG80 is very good or superior.

 

well, bg80 is very good, no doubt. But not superior, because everybody is lookign for somehtign else in a string, and to make it more complicated: evyerbody uses different tensions...

Person A could state bg66 is superior, because it feels great and has the best (subjective).
Person B says bg80 is better because it has better durability.
the subjectvie part is: what matters to you?

also don't exclude different-branded strings...like BS963 (from sotx), I personally loved the thing (will test all sotx strigns after my yy's are depleted, 1x85 and 9x66 to go..) feel like bg66, and an unbelievable bounce. my dad on the other hand didn't like it, saying it's too bouncy, and he couldn't control his net-play..he said 'hmm, maybe it'll be better 3 lbs lower' while it was his regular tension..

in short: it's all relative

 

Disagree. Jerry you should read more carefully. I, as well as many others here, have stated BG80 is very good/excellent/superior and given our reasons for it. I have stated many times, for me, BG80 is (one of) the best combinations of performance, feel and (moderate) durability in a string.

So, like you said, it's all relative but most of us have stated our relativity as to why BG80 is superior (so have you). So, in conclusion, BG80 is superior for me and many others, including you.

set me straight here, what have I misread?
on another part, superior to what? (maybe I misread/misinterpreted that)
if superior to 85, I'm not very sure. because I find 85 durability satisfactory I'd say 85 is 'better'.
if it's versus 66 it would be an even harder call for me, since it performs in a league of it's own (for yonex strigns) but doesnt last.
personally durabiloty isn't a big issue, anything longer than a week is fine.

EDIT: I'm contradicting myself...In my first post here I should've been clearer and more conclusive that génerally bg80 is 'the best' and 'first class' but since durabilty isn't such a big issue for me (though I know many people think otherwise) I'd prefer 66 or 85...

 

BG80 is a great Yonex string. Everyone I strung for using this string always asked for that again. I have switched to Ashaway strings myself long ago. I won't buy more BG80 however. All my existing BG80 users will have to switch to Ashaway MicroLegend XL when they need restringing, or they can go find themselves another stringer. Although people say thin strings have more power, I think the string material is far more important for power than the thickness.

 

Personally, I think BG85 has a bit better control feeling and power, before it starts to lose tension. Of course, you don't need to suffer long from the losing tension part, as it breaks fast. BG80 lasts at least twice as long for me, when compare to BG85, and it maintains at least 90-95% of performance of the previous one. Therefore, a very good combo for player seeking performance as well as want to save their wallet a bit.

 

what's the price difference between 80 and 85?
this saving that everyone's talking about, is this mainly due to the fact that BG80 strings last longer than 85 or because it's cheaper as well?

 

it just alsts longer. it doesn't ravel liek 85, and is a bit thicker. price difference varies, but is generally rather small (per pack, bg80 comes in reels, 85 doesn't)
