Chen Hong is the only player whom has participated in every single major tournament since world championship 06, and that's a whooping 5 tournaments since September (WC,JO,CO,Wcup, now DO). Within 2 months, he is in 5 tournaments... more importantly between the World cup and Denmark open, he only has a few days for rest but keep in mind that when he gets to Denmark, he also needs to get used to the time difference. If somehow Chen Hong can reach far in this Denmark open, then he should be recognized more for his unbelievable effort this year!!! Fans talked about LCW overwork himself, and TH is not in shape and all that stuff... now take a good look at what CH is doing. He has the stamina to go through all this while he is a few years older than some of the top players today. This year's MVP in badminton has got to be LD(for most wins) and CH(for effort).
also, more important, Chen Hong is the only title winner (besides Lin Dan) in the tournaments which Lin Dan was in since Malaysia open. Chen Hong won the China Open, which is also the only tournaments Lin Dan had to admit he was not the best at that moment. Thank you for pointing this out, thank Chen Hong for great effort.
Chen Hong seems to be at a stage in his career where he just plays for the enjoyment of playing and not taking too seriously. This benefits him since he has less pressure so his mental weaknesses are reduced. If he loses he seems not to be so disappointed as previousley. Probably in his training nowadays the focus is less on skill development and more on fitness, so as part of this he plays more. I can't beleive he is now 27!! Time flies. In AE 2002 He and Lin were playing and LD lost in quarter final CH was seen as the unbeatable player as he went to his second consecutive final (and won) how times change. No Lin Dan is seen as (almost) unbeatable, and Chen as the Better looking bridesmaid! (better looking as in skills!)
chen hong's case is quite similar to peter gade or kenneth.J they play for leisure only... but still in a tournament
I don't think so Peter Gade has pressures, especially in 3 levels High level pressure: to win some big tournaments he has never won. Middle level pressure: to re-claim the local Denmark open title for Danes which lost since 2000. Low level pressure: to earn prize money to support his extra life expenses. Kenneth J? he yet won any notable title yet. Never dominant in anytime. Only thing noticeable is his long time badminton career. Peter Gade even won Denmark open in 1998. KJ is under big pressure to win his first home title before retired. Chen Hong, who dominated badminton in the year 2002 - 2003, has won both Denmark open in Denmark and China Open at home. I think it is kind of true that Chen Hong now is aimless. He has no chance to get better position in China national team, and also no expectations from coaches. So he maybe play just for fun. Because whether he won or lose at Denmark open, doesn't make much difference for him. Peter Gade got the pressure to protect the Denmark badminton reputation, and won back the title he and Denmark lost 6 years ago. KJ got the biggest pressure to try to win his first Denmark open. Even PG mentioned himself that he has to skip China Open to prepare for the Denmark open. While Chen Hong continues after the Japan open to play China Open, World Cup, now Denmark open without a single day of rest.
jonassen usually gets to at least quarter final stages in most tourneys and correct me if im wrong, but he did win 2005 Aviva Singapore Open did he not?
Yes. The first european to win the event. KJ is a good player, but not a great player. I like him, I think he puts too much pressure on himself though, and cannot control his energy enough into the game. He is a regular in QF of tournaments, but no further mostly. His best Performance (IMO) was WC03 Vs XXZ in QF, what a match. An inspired XXZ and it took all of his efftors to beat KJ. FULL of fantastice and gruelling rallies.
KJ is a very capable player. He took the MAL Open (2004?) and almost beat LD in 2006 HO or KO? A bad line call stopped his momentum.
Yeah the HKO. That was a shame, he was playing very well and it would have been a huge win for him . He looked pretty unhappy most of game 3. EDIT: Hmm it seems the topic has turned from CH into KJ .
too bad he is most likely not gonna make the olympic 2k8 game read on other forumn that he is offically off the olympic list LD and Bao and CJ is gonna be on the man single line up which make sense on paper but CH've been on fire lately..
The competition in China is just too fierce... If Chen Hong is to represent another country, he will definitely be participating in even more major tournaments without any doubt whatsoever with his recent performance. Chen Hong's offense = top tier!!! well at least the more comfortable shots...
Hey guy.. i think some wrong info u have lah... Last year 2005 Aviva Singapore Open Winner is taufik lah. The final is he versus chen hong. win the game in 2 set. I was there watching live with my frenz and 2006 winner is Peter Gade. He versus KJ in the final.. I also there watching the live game..
Now that Chen Hong has won the Denmark Open... he has just proven to everyone in the badminton world that he is still a top contender!!! Someone must have awaken the beast within Chen Hong lately!!!
Perhaps it was his performance in WC that made him realise he's still got what it takes to win the major tournaments. He's been brilliant recently, and I'm impressed with Chen Yu as well. Didn't expect him to beat PG!
Chen hong had amazing accuracy when he smashes. There was once i asked him to jump smash and try to hit shuttle tubes that i placed around the courts.. he did that successfully 6 out of 10 times... I MEAN JUMP SMASH.. not just stand and Smash..
