With the coming of the new James Bond movie Casino Royale comes a new, blonde, if I may say so, Bond in the shape of Daniel Craig whom is frankly somebody I never heard about until he was cast as the new 007. He is replacing the outgoing Pierce Brosnan whom I like the best of all Bonds down the years.

The old chestnut about who is the best Bond and which is the best Bond movie had been done almost to death (just barely twitching with life) so the other question to pose at the moment is, who do you prefer to take over Pierce Brosnan.

I know some of us have reservations about a fair haired Bond or how he may not appear to be the Bond we have in mind, so, can you do better?

Who would you like to be the next Bond?

Let's not turn this into a CR or Daniel Craig bashing thread, so here we go.

without a doubt the best Bond ever was Sean Connery. so slick... hahah

i think that the next Bond will still be Daniel Craig (next couple?) because the producers supposedly really like his performance in Casino Royale so they hired him for the next couple movies.

anyways, this movie imo looks better than the more recent versions.

Kristian Bale or Hugh Jackman are so talented. I think either of them could pull it off.

    That t'ain't happenin', yo, word!

My pick would be Rupert Everett, whom I think is rather stylish British fellow. First knew about him from watching My Best Friend's Wedding and is very much one of the more versatile actors.

Failing that, the safety net of Hugh Grant could do it although it may just turn out as 'James English' brother of Johnny than Bond.

Yes, I'm partial towards a Brit or Irish for Bond, don't seem the same without the natural accent.

My pick is Hugh Jackman .....
I would vote for Pierce Brosnan as being the best 007 agent through the years..... :)

Yeah, I dunno, Pierce Brosnan rocked, in my opinion. As for the next? Kinda strange choice, but how 'bout Jude Law?

They've tried an Aussie---can you say George Lazenby?---why not an American? :) Besides, if **** Van Dyke can play a Cockney chimney sweep and Kevin Costner can play Robin Hood, then P. Diddy can play James Bond. :D And wouldn't it be cool to have a tricked out Cadillac Escalade as the next Bond car?

George Lazenby Dalton is from a Commonwealth country such as Australia, with accents almost indistinguishable from British English - not the thick, heavy ones of Steve Irwin (what's the name? Str- something?) so they could pass as a Brit.

As for P.Diddy playing Bond, there'll be a need for some fundamental changes to the script and background, the very first being his employers - the CIA instead of the MI6?

I'd say it's an interesting idea although I don't think Bond will be Bond if you make such big changes though - might as well create a new story altogether.

    Like Austin Powers.

Just saw Casino Royale on DVD, can't be (as the British call it) 'arsed' to go to the cinema for this one and I do have just one thing to say:

Eva Green can melt anybody twice over with that adopted upper class English accent of hers. I was so surprised with how natural it sounded that I watched that scene three times and wondered if she really is a Frenchwoman or one from England who did big in France.

She was fully clothed (Yes, I read about The Dreamers) and yet she oozes sexiness from every syllabus that rolled off her tongue.

Why can't all women be like that - charming and classy? ;)

i have always visiones pierce brosnan as james bond back when he was remington steele. if he had started earlier in the bond franchise he would probably be the all time best apart from sean connery.

craig is a different linda bond. more serious, less humorous (and a british hero must have british wit i tell ya), more efficient but less suave. so i a nut shell, i dont like him as bond but he is and i view the recent bond movie as a totally different take on the franchise.

who i would like to see as the next bond. CLIVE OWEN. or anybody with the quiet, unassuming, with british suave and wit and yes, not blond. bond to me should remain a dark haired dangerous stranger with a killer smile. :)

I was pretty apprehensive about Daniel Craig at first but I thought he did pretty well, although a blonde Bond is always going to look a little weird. Takes some getting used to but by the time he's seen on the train to Montenegro, I sort of got used to it.

And then Vesper came into the picture and her going, "Accountants have imagination too". :)

I've read some bit about this Bond, which to some is a lot more faithful to Ian Fleming's original version (a lot colder and ruthless) but after years of Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan I suppose the traits were very much burned into memory. Still, he was a rookie double-o on Casino Royale - didn't M shout at him for blowing up an embassy?

By the way, the movie introductory sequence was pretty good by using the motives of card suits to fit the title name of the movie. The song You Know My Name by Chris Cornell fits the introduction well.

The only problem here is how much more advanced this Bond is in terms of technology which can be a bit jarring after a while.

And, I do agree about the Remington Steele bit - used to watch that show a lot and I do believe I did once mention him being the next Bond to my brothers. Perfect.
