What do you guys use to cut the plastic ties that bundles the 10m string into a loop? I usually use a diagona cutter or fine point scissors. However, I find that on occasion, I'd nick and damage the strings by accident... and depending on where the nick is, I often have to toss these strings...

What is the safest way to cut these ties? Thanks!

The safest way is not to cut the plastic ties at all. I can't describe it properly, but I have seen stringers uncoil the packs of string by gripping the tie with fingers of one hand, and making circular revolutions of the coil with the other hand.

I am sure someone will describe it more clearly, but please at least take comfort in knowing that you should never have to risk using cutters or scissors ever again.

Small wire cutter the kind that's usually supplied with your stringing machine. Just clip the tie right at the cuff.

I use a method similar to what tkteo describes. I uncoil/pull out one end of the string having to do this every time the string makes a full revolution back to the plastic tie. I keep doing this until i reach the length required to string the mains so i cut it off from the bundle.

I then use the diagonal cutters to cut off the plastic tie since there is sufficient spacing between the remaining strings (for crosses) in the bundle and the plastic tie.

    hope this helps

Similar here. Only difference is, I cut the tie (uncoil until enough space), then measure the main and cross, and cut into 2 pieces. A sharp nail cutter is very useful. ;)

I use the point of a knife to unlock the little mechanism that keeps the tie together. And then it comes apart easy.

Just cut the part holding the strap on the one side. No chance of nicking the string.

Buy toe-nail clippers, unless your cheap and just rinse it and use it over again.

You don't want any left over residue on your strings when you start cutting the plastic tie :D

Just slowly and carefully cut away at the plastic tie.

A few years ago I figured out how to take these plastic ties off. Well not for badminton things..more like packaging things. Just get a pointy/small object and poke right threw the lock it has. And push out the tie. Hope you guys know what I'm talking about because I can't explain that well on BC. But I can show you.

Yes, it does. The black version isn't that popular though.

yes, one could do that which i have tried on larger plastic ties. However, with string ties, u needed a much much smaller pointy object and u could run the risk of nicking the string.
