Default Indian International Satellite Badminton Championships 2006, Mumbai, India

I haven't seen any news about this tournament. Korea sent a mostly junior team there with the head coach of the junior team, Lee Deuk-choon, and many of the medal winners from last weeks World Junior Championships. Of the 16 Korean players, all but 5 are 18 or under. In the round of 32, 13 of 17 Korean entries advanced and in the round of 16, 17 of 19 Korean sides booked entry to the quarter finals. The only Koreans to fail in the round of 16 were WJC gold medallist Yoo Hyun-young in mixed and WJC bronze medallists Lee Jung-hwan and Kim Ki-jung in Men's doubles (Lee was Yoo's mixed partner, too). Yoo must have been tired from playing 11 days straight in Incheon. Quite a lot for a 16-year-old.

Full results are here but they are a day behind. So far, no results from Thursday.

Well it looks as if, in yesterday's final, Saina Nehwal of India played Jang Soo-young for the third time in 2 weeks. Jang won on Nov 3 in the Group W final of the WJC team event. Saina won 2-0 in the Round of 16 in the WJC individual event. Saina won again yesterday, though. Korea took the other two other finals that were Korea vs. India and also won the mixed (an all-Korean final). Jung Youn-Kyung won two golds. She was replacing Lee Hyo-jung a few weeks back so the fact that she is not at home preparing for Doha with the rest of the squad suggests that Lee Hyo-jung's back is feeling better.

    Full results are here.
