Yes and they have to play in the qualifying rounds but in the subsequent R1, they were too good for the young M'sian pair of Lok Chong Chieh/Chan Kwong Beng.

    Loh

Just a hint on guessing the names of Malaysia's Kedah players whose fathers appear in the pics:

Kuan Beng Hong, Kenn Lim, Tan Boon Heong

Wow....a wonderful performance by Sylvinna Kurniawan once again as she beat the second-seed Jang Soo Young in 3 sets 18-21, 22-20, 21-9. Jang probably ran out of steam after the deuce. She will face the second-seed Chen Jiayun in a winnable tie tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Yuan Kartika Putri also advanced as I expected after another rubber-set victory 12-21, 21-17, 21-9 against Chang Ya Lan. She will entertain Anita Raj Kaur, who beat Bellaetrix Manuputty 23-21, 21-14.

If both players can win their matches tomorrow, INA will have one representative in the Final on Sunday.

2 other club players, Melicia Kurniawan and Rhany Christina Sanusi failed to reach quarter-final. Melicia lost in 3 tight sets to Sannatasah Saniru 22-20, 16-21, 21-23. Rhany lost to Kim Moon Hi also in 3 sets 15-21, 22-20, 13-21. The Malaysian player will face the top-seed Sutheswari Mundukasan, while Kim will play against Gu Juan.

In the Men's Singles second round, the Pelatnas players Andreas Adityawarman and Indra Bagus Ade Chandra have progressed to the next round after straight-sets victories. They will play each other for a place in the quarter-final later tonight.

The Singapore and JPGG Satellite champions, Jeffer Rosobin, also continues his bid to win his 3rd Satellite title this year after an easy 21-13, 21-9 victory over Thng Boon Seong. He will face Chong Wei Feng in an interesting tie tonight.

The young Singaporean prospect, Derek Wong, also progressed after a routine 21-13, 21-18 victory over his Vietnamese opponent. He will face a Jap player Kazuteru Kozai tonight. The Jap beat Darren Liew this morning.

The second round matches in MS have been concluded.

The other Pelatnas player Alamsyah Yunus also progressed after a 3-set 21-17, 18-21, 21-12 victory over Cheng Ching Hung. He will face his compatriot Ari Yuli Wahyu Hartono tonight. Ari Yuli beat the Thai player Pakkawat Vilailak also in 3 tight sets 22-20, 15-21, 21-17 in a match that stretched over an hour (65 mins to be exact).

Meanwhile, Fauzi Adnan beat Lok Chong Chieh 21-14, 21-14 and he will face the second seed Krishnan Yogendran in the next roud. Andre Kurniawan also won his match against Teo Kok Siang 21-12, 21-13. He will entertain Beryno Wong who beat Wisnu Haryo Putro in 3-sets 21-16, 17-21, 21-8.

Another Malaysian junior Kenn Lim lost to Ahmad Rivai 17-21, 16-21. The Indonesian player will play Lee Cheol Ho tonight. Tan Chun Seang was also victorious this morning and he will face another Korean Jung Hoon Min tonight.

The matches in the morning session have been completed and will only resume at 6:00pm.

In the WD, both the top seed Nitya Krishinda/Nadya Melati and the 5/8 seed Shendy Puspa Irawati/Devi Tika Permatasari have advanced to the next round to be played also tonight. Nitya/Nadya struggled to beat Ooi Chia Ee/Teoh Huey Erh in 3 sets 21-7, 19-21, 21-13. They should beat their opponent Ooi Swee Wenn/Stephanie Sukumaran tonight.

Meanwhile, Shendy/Devi won easily 21-9, 21-13 in 20 mins over Tan Sin Lan/Daphne Ng. They will face a tough tie against the recently crowned World Junior runners-up Hong Soo Jung/Sun In Jang tonight.

Yes and he kept me company with my Kedah friends at the KBA badminton venue.

Unfortunately his camera could not work at this morning's session as it was "jammed". Guess it needs servicing.

Is TBH's father the one in the middle in the second pic? So many fathers in white and black shirt. I can't distinguish them. Black shorts with thick moustache or grey shorts with thick eyebrows in the 1st pic?

The Korean players have made quite an impact recently. Here are some who participated at Alor Star, though most of them are quite new to us:
