Can you guess who is this ex-great player who is now coach to Indonesia's women's singles seen at Alor Star:[quote]

Kok Cheng, is he Fang Kai Xiang? But I thought he is the MS coach for some Indonesia juniors.

He is Fang Kaixiang. One note though: He's hired by DJARUM KUDUS, not Pelatnas (the national team). Sylvinna Kurniawan is bloosoming into a real good prospect under his tutelage. And she's not in Pelatnas yet....

To kokcheng: do you happen to have some pics of Sylvinna and Bellaetrix? Will be grateful if you can post them!

Two out of three Pelatnas pairs went through to the quarter-final in the XD.
Frans Kurniawan/Nitya Krishinda beat Poh Chai Boon/Ooi Swee Wenn 21-16, 21-16 and they face the first-seed conqueror Hirokatsu Hashimoto/Yu Wakita tomorrow. Tantowi Ahmad/Yulianti also beat Mak Hee Chun/Sannatasah Saniru 21-16, 21-13 to earn the right to face Lee Jung Hwan/Yoo Hyun Young in the quarter-final.

Unfortunately, Lingga/Devi Tika Permatasari lost to Lim Khim Wah/Amelia Alicia Anscelly in 3 hard-fought sets 21-15, 19-21, 18-21. The Malaysian pair will meet Takatoshi Kurose/Yuko Kanamori who beat the club pair Mohd Rydho Akbar/Bellaetrix Manuputty 21-19, 21.11

Another club pair, Hendra Setyo Nugroho/Gustiani Megawatisari also lost at the hand of another more experienced Malaysian young pair Chan Peng Soon/Haw Chiou Hwee 13-21, 15-21. The Malaysian will square off against Shin Baek Cheol/Kim Min Jung tomorrow.

In the MS, Andreas Adityawarman progressed to the QF after beating his compatriot Indra Bagus Ade Chandra in 3 tight sets 23-25, 21-15, 21-18. He will face the Korean player Lee Cheol Ho, who beat Ahmad Rivai 21-17, 21-12.

The other remaining Pelatnas player, Alamsyah Yunus, continued to show promise as well as he also took a spot in the QF after beating Ari Yuli Wahyu Hartanto 21-13, 21-13. He will face a tough test against the second-seed Krishnan Yogendran tomorrow. The Malaysian player saw off Adnan Fauzi in 3 sets 16-21, 21-13, 21-17.

The top-seed Jeffer Rosobin is still more experienced as he beat Chong Wei Feng in two tight sets 21-18, 21-17. He will meet Kazuteru Kozai who beat Derek Wong in 3 sets 21-14, 15-21, 21-13. The Indonesian player has a good chance of winning his third Satellite title this year.

The last match in the quarter-final will pit two young and promising Malaysian juniors, Beryno Wong and Tan Chun Seang. Beryno beat Andre Kurniawan easily 21-11, 21-15; while Chun Seang beat Jung Hoon Min 21-13, 23-21.

    Sylvinna Kurniawan's record this year:
MILO Indonesia Open Junior -- CHAMPION
Kejurnas Bulutangkis (Individual Event, Junior) -- CHAMPION
JPGG Surabaya Satelitte -- SEMI-FINAL (lost to Maria Kristin)
World Junior Championshops -- ROUND OF 64 (lost to Saina Nehwal in 3 sets)
Magnum ABC Malaysia Satellite -- QUARTER-FINAL tentatively (beat Jang Soo Young).

I would say it's a very good achievement for the Djarum player. Why doesn't Pelatnas want her (and Bellaetrix) this year during the Selection?

In the WD second round, only Nitya Krishinda/Nadya Melati advanced to the quarter-final after yet another rubber-set 17-21, 21-12, 21-10 victory over Ooi Swee Wenn/Stephanie Shalini Sukumaran. They will face a very tough opponent in Jung Youn Kyung/Kim Min Jung tomorrow.

The other Pelatnas pair, Shendy Puspa Irawati/Devi Tika Permatasari lost easily 12-21, 11-21 to the World Junior runners-up Hong Soo Joung/Sun In Jang. The Korean pair will meet the second-seed Fu Mingtian/Yao Lei in the QF.

The other two quarter-finals will be Fong Chew Yen/See Phui Leng against their compatriot Vivian Hoo/Sannatasah Saniru and Yuko Kanamori/Mami Naito against Yoo Hyun Young (the World Junior champion)/Jung Kyung Eun.

Finally, all the three Pelatnas MD pairs have progressed to the quarter-finals. The second-seed Yoga Ukikasah/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki beat Lim Chen Wet/Ng Kean Kok 21-17, 21-19. They will face another Malaysian pair Au Kok Leong/Azrihanif Azahar tomorrow.

The 3/4 seed, Rendra Wijaya/Frans Kurniawan had an easy 21-10, 21-15 victory over Kim Young Sun/Chung Eui Seok. They will face a tough tie against Khoo Chung Chiat/Mohd Razif Abdul Latif.

Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan also beat Mohd Nazree Latifi/Mohd Hashim 21-17, 21-15. The top-seed Gan Teik Chai/Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif already await them tomorrow.

The other QF match is also an interesting tie between Chew Choon Eng/Hong Chieng Hun and Tan Bin Shen/Ong Soon Hock. Tan/Ong beat the senior Indonesian pair of Bambang Suprianto/Tri Kusharyanto 22-20, 21-16.

Great job! Both you and rwchen got the right answer. Yes Sylvinna is with Djarum and not Pelatnas.

I'll have to ask Loh whether he has the pics of your two ladies.
