    KIM Moon Hi
    JANG Soo Young

Now,that is fantastic. So many Koreans coming to my hometown.Welcome to Alor Star.I heard from The Kedah state coach,Sam,that a strong contingent of 47 Indonesians are also coming. The more notables ones are Bambang Soprianto,Trikus and Jefer Rosobin.Players from13 countries are vying for 5 titles. From Malaysia, the most reputable pair of Gan Teik Chai and Zakry will spearhead for the men's doubles title. My good friend, Loh of Singapore is coming down to A/S for the tournament. So sit tight and wait for further info.and news soon.

As usual, the club players like Jeffer, Trikus and Bambang will be coming to spar with the juniors from most other countries.

Gan/Zakry are the defending champion...so...if they can win it again, they will retain their 11th rank, otherwise Rian/Eng Hian will surpass them.

The Indonesian contingent will probably include Pelatnas's second-team players, like: Maria Kristin (she was originally included, but, not sure now since she has participated in 3 European tourneys plus the Kejurnas...that's one whole month of continuous tournament participation); Pia Zebadiah; Tommy Sugiarto (not sure also), Alamsyah Yunus, Andreas Adityawarman, Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi (also not sure if they want to play in another Satellite event), Yoga Ukikasah/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki, Frans Kurniawan/Rendra Wijaya, Bona Septano/Mohd Aksan, Nitya Krishinda/Nadya Melati, Shendy Puspa/Devi Tika, Lingga/Yulianti, and others.

The club players will include those veterans plus some Djarum players like Maria Elvira and Purwati/Meiliana Jauhari; plus juniors like Sylvinna Kurniawan, Melicia Kurniawan, and maybe Bellaetrix Manuputy,

    Yannie,

I'll be visiting my good friend, kokcheng, from up North Kedah, a state that has produced quite a number of Malaysian badminton stars but which I only passed by the last time. I'm sure I'll learn more about Alor Star this time as Kokcheng will be my guide, protector and mentor. I'll try to take some pics, but being not in the comforts of my office with my pc, I may not be able to post your pics in time until my return to the office.

    Thousand apologies in advance! :D

First round result for MS is updated at http://www.bam.org.my:8080/massatellite2006/upload/results/ms.html

Only 2 seeds failed to advance to the 2nd round :-
    1) 9/16 seed Djohan Erwin (SIN) who fell to Lok Chong Chieh (Mas, Age 18) in a 55 minute thriller. score was 22-20 in the rubber!
Job well done by a junior.

    2) 3/4 seed James Chua. Seems he did not appear for the event.

    2nd round Highlights

    - 9/16 seed Lim Kenn (MAS) vs Ahmad Rivai (INA)
    - Lok Chong Chieh (MAS) vs Fauzi Adnan (INA) - Will young Lok continue his gallant run?
    - 9/16 seed Beryno (MAS) vs Putro Wisnu Harya (INA)

The rest of the field seem to pit familiar names againts unfamiliar names.

    cheers

The top seed in XD, Gan Teik Chai/Fong Chew Yen have lost to an unknown Jap pair Hirokatsu Hashimoto/Yu Wakita in 3 very tight sets 22-20, 11-21, 24-26

This will make life easier for Frans Kurniawan/Nitya Krishinda as they are expected to meet the top seed in the quarter-final. The Indonesian pair also struggled to beat the Korean pair Jung Hoon Min/Jung Youn Kyung in 3 sets 21-11, 17-21, 21-16.

Ahmad Tantowi/Yulianti also progressed after beating Ng Sun Ly/Ong Shu Voon 21-8, 21-12. They will face a tougher test against Mak Hee Chun (World Junior semi-finalist)/Sannatasah Saniru tomorrow.

Another Pelatnas pair, LIngga/Devi Tika Permatasari will face yet another Korean pair Chung Eui Seok/Hong Soo Jung later tonight.
