    Unhappy Dumbest Injury

Since someone posted a question about the funniest thing they have seen in badminton, I am posting this because I am sick of all the injury questions posted here.

What is the dumbest injury you have seen or herd of?

I once heard that someone got their retina detached by the bird. The dumb part is that he was bending over ready to pick up the bird, and his opponent tried to pick up the bird with his racket, but he accidently flicked the shuttle into his friend's eye.

Is eye protection still mandated in Canada?

These were friends on the same high school team. The guy had to miss out his last year of playing in high school.

Hmm dumbest thing I've seen would be this guy shaking his racket after losing a point. He was just shaking it in front of him like you would to get a feel for the weight of a racket, then smacked himself in his knee cap, then overreacting smacked himself in the face. This all happened fairly fast so when his opponent turned around the guy was on the floor in a fetal position.

I don't recall the thread ever being about funny injuries (to some extent), thats one thread down. This thread is just about stupid injuries.

And the purpose of the stupid injuries thread? To take the piss out of people who self-inflicted themselves with injuries and we as 3rd party can take delight that we are not in their shoes?

You know, maybe to learn from them? After reading toddster's post, I'm never going to flick the birdie blindly to my opponent and especially not if it's at the net and we are both walking towards it. I also stop swining my racket around because of that guy who smacked himself while not paying attention.

I'm not saying that stupid injuries can't be funny, but if it's only a side effect to what you can learn from it then it's fine. If it's just for comedy, then it's also fine, because in retrospect if you can't find anything funny with stupid injuries, then you're griefing over it too much which prevents you from moving foward.

Indeed. We need to watch out for certain dangers related to badminton, 'cause just a few years back, in CCS, our league's championships, someone got their glasses broken by a smash. Not a dumb injury, but it's an example of the dangers of badminton. Seems like a tame sport, but not really. Also, I once jammed my thumb by smashing, as my thumb accidentally slipped into backhand grip, and I immediately dropped my racket from pain. I made the smash in, but it hurt bad, and I couldn't play for ten minutes. Good thing it wasn't a real match.

Hey if I hit myself in the knee and the head, after the initial anger I would realise I was a ditz and find it funny. Injuries happen - I don't take them too seriously (besides the treatment of them).

This was my Goal. To help other people avoid injuries.

I apologise for any laughter I have expressed for any "idiotic" antics that are expressed here.

ha ha ha ha he he he he Smack his knee and then his face ha ha ha ha. That was funny Dummy!!!!

Maybe we should rename this post "How to avoid Injuries". OR just start another thread on avoiding injuries

Ouch, yea I've done that before. Too deceptive of a motion. It did however distract my opponent when i fell over.

Been there done that!! I am glad to hear I am not the only one who has "distracted" my opponent when I performed this technique

this has to be the all time most common dumb injury in badminton. I have to have done this at least 2 times the past month. Once it was on a mid court jump smash, it won... but i lost the next 10 points because of obvious reasons. I even lost them with my friend laughing half the time
