Default Does anyone experience pain in the shaded region?

Does anyone experience pain in the above shaded region?

I am experiencing pain in the region shown. It's below and behind the protruding part in the ankle.

It makes movement painful sometimes, especially jumping.

The thing is i only play once a week and this pain has been bugging me for more than a month.

    Anyone knows what's happening?Any advice?

    Thanks!

Do u stomp when return the shuttle?(Usually when you didnt get there in time, happens to me)
Due to my lousy footwork, I usually have to stomp when I return the shuttle and it results in painful heels. But the problem stopped when I got a pair of shoe with better cushioning.
But you have much better footwork, so maybe its not the stomping issue after all.

It looks like you have poor heel support in your shoes or you're stompping a lot. You might want to look into getting a heel cup insert for your shoes. It might also be helpful if you learn to transfer weight on your foot when lunging.

Learn to step lightly. That means working on your footwork and strengthening your calves. Good shoes will help, but it won't be a long term solution. If you don't change anything soon, eventually it'll be hard to unlearn your bad habits and you won't be able to playing baddy without pain.

    Bic33,

You might wanna reconsider ignoring your pain. When something feels wrong, it's worth spending sometime to find out the reason and possibly correct it.

Yes, I had that exact problem. It's a pesky one that doesn't want to go away. There are a variety of reasons why you developed this pain. I would recommend you go see a specialist about it.

I had a moderate case of this and it took me 2 months to "completely" heal. For me, the shaded region was actually a bit bruised and swollen. This is how I fixed the problem:

    1) Wore (still do) a compressive ankle brace that compresses the area and keeps it warm. I wear the Nike one like this one:
    http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageNIKE-NASL.html

    3) Before and after games, stretch all muscles in related area, slowly and hold for a few minutes.

    3) Before and after games, rub Icy-Hot or similar sports cream on area.

    4) Go home and ice the area and at night, before I sleep, more sports cream and wear socks to keep your feet warm (you should do that anyway, it's a Zen health thing).

Using the above methods, it's been over 3 months since I "completely" healed and the problem has not come back.

The pain in on both foot and it usually occurs when im moving sideways or to the front 2 corners.

I don't stomp though and i guess my foot work is light enough...

I suspect the problem could lie in the shoes as they are quite old. Think more than 2 years. (I only play once a week)

    Thanks everyone for the advices.

DinkAlot, i'll try to practise what you had mention and hopefully the pain will be history.

I rolled my left ankle last week too. I attempted a jump smash to the left a bit and landed a bit on the side of my foot. It could barely walk for 10 minutes.

I woke up in the morning and the whole thing was swollen! It was almost the size of a tennis ball! my poor ankle! I'm currently wearing an elastic strap which is helping temporarily. I'm visiting my local Podiatrist tomorrow. I may opt for a proper ankle brace and Orthotic pads.
