man pull ups are tough for the pull up where you lie down on the floor and try to pull yourself up i can do 25 but the one where you hang yourself with your hands in midair and try to pull yourself up is mission impossible, but tom cruise completes all his missions so is there a technique?
Preparing for National Service already?? Well pullups aka chinups and 2.4km run are the 2 common stations ppl normally fail. The main thing is to keep doing. Try and do everyday. If you can't pull up, try and get someone to assist you. You can also hang on the bar as long as you can to train your grip strength. If it's inconvenient/hard to find a chinup bar outside, you can get the chinup bar found at Kettler (in Paragon Orchard) for S$30 and install at your home. No screws/drilling required. Gym training also helps. Pullups involves alot of your back muscles. You can do the Lat Pulldowns and probably some rows as well. Overgrip (palms facing out) uses more triceps, undergrip (palms facing in) requires more biceps strength. Previously I can't do a single chinup before NS. Now I can do at least 12. You can also look at this S'porean Blog. http://captnj.blogspot.com/ He has just recently started his IPPT series where he's giving tips on how to "survive" it.
You mean holding a bar in the air and pull yourself up ? i can do like 15 like that with 2 hands, and like 10 with 1 hand (the other pulling the other arm)
i've been able to do chin ups and pull ups my whole life... . I guess start with bicep curls and work your way up.
I can do about 22 to 24 pull ups in a single go... I do it almost every morning and evening... in order to do more, you need to do it regularly so that the muscles can get used to this regime. The more more you can do is not directly related to more strength... its more related to stamina and endurance. Jason.
Practice. When I first tried to do pull-ups, I could only do about 7. Then I practiced every day as training and at 200lbs. (10% body fat), my max one time was 40-45. Also at the end, I had the most calloused hands. I have not done one pull-up since (been over 10 years).
Coordination is a big thing. So, just individual joint exercises like curls probably won't be too useful at this time, unless it's your arms that are a major weakness. I suggest doing negative pullups. Jump/climb up into the top position, and slowly lower yourself down. I'm sure you'll be doing pullups in no time!
i'm so ashamed....i can do only 6 max at one go.....i'd better train up for NS.. the lie down one i've been doing 30+ effortlessly year after year.when pullups came i realise it's hard. i did only 5 in napfa...but i got A for broad jump, sit&reach, shuttle run, situps. 2.4 11+min lol that's why i can't play singles
I'm out of shape, used to be able to do about 20 in a set bet now i would stuggle to do more than about 3.....
it isn't that difficult to get 5 points for all the stations (SBJ, shuttle run, situps) except chinups and 2.4km run. At my peak, I was able to do: SBJ : 260cm Shuttle Run : 9.1 sec Situps : >48 Chiups : 16 2.4km run : 9min 11sec Nothing fantastic compared to many others and worst still, my 2.4km run has dropped ever since completing NS. Ran 10:45 the other day! The other stations are still fine thankfully. Need to train up if I want to get gold again..... main objective is to get the free S$400 to buy rackets. No gold = no new rackets! At least I've got something to aim for.
i guess we should rather save up and buy a seperate semi d or terrace thats big enough to have 1 court, booking problems solved
well, there's a pull-up machine with many gyms...it's called "weight-assisted pull-up" machine...with that, you don't need to pull 100% of your natural body weight from the start...with practice(for a year or so depending on the body fitness), you can gradually increase your power and be able to do "normal" pull up
You don't have to start training with pullups if you find them hard to do. The main muscle worked are the lats, or your back. The simplest and what I find to be the best targetting excercise for the back is the bent-over dumbbell row. http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/BackGeneral/DBBentOverRow.html Main thing is to not employ your shoulder muscle to pull the weight up, but pulling up from your elbow if that makes sense. Almost as if your arm is deadweight, and you're only using it for stability, like a crane. Oh, and it helps to actually actively think about tensing your lats while pulling up. Usually gives me a very nice, targetted burn.
Wide grip pull ups, I can do about five. I haven't tried chin ups in years, I'll test it out at lunch today.
they arent hard unless ur ultra heavy.... i am like 155 pounds and i can do at least 20+ per go... i jsut get too bored lol swim instead its great ^^
