Since there are members here that are rooted every corner of the globe, I like to hear about events or trends over there that I might not hear from regular news. Post them here if u see/hear/read things that may concern you.

To start here is some recent events:
    - Global investment bank Merrill Lynch has warned that worsening pollution in Hong Kong will drive out professionals and undercut its competitive edge, especially against rival Singapore.

    - I like to know if indonesia forest fire still burning?

    - is winter in europe colder and come sooner this year?

    - any big spills in china?:D

Yeah, not much, it's snowing pretty crazy for the Vancouver, B.C area... 22 cm... and it's fall...

It hasn't snowed this much for at least 3 years.

When did ML send out that warning? Hong Kong's Hang Seng index(HSI) has reached an historical high in the last 10 days...HSI is a quite a reflection of the view of jumbo global i-bank names like Goldmansacs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley on the business/investment prospects in HK.

over the year, i've learn that there's a strategy from the i-bank: it's often that when they say bad (business)things to a place, they will increase the investment in the stock market...when they say good things about the place, they are indeed liquidating their holdings!(buy cheap, sell high)

sure they burn every year.....gosh they really have to stop doing it. Burning for farmland is so selfish....I got sick when the haze hit my area and so did many others.

It's november which, when I was a kid, meant that it was time to zip up jackets and wear gloves etc.

It's much warmer now. I barely see anyone wearing thick jackets or gloves. In my opinion, it's definitely warmer now than it used to be.

I wear a thick jacket and gloves, but that is around 05:45 when walking the dogs...

The cold weather we get tends to be late January/early February nowadays.
Back in the 70's it was December/January (I think)

I think you're right about the coldest months, Neil. I do think in general its warmer though as I can't remember the last time we had proper snow. Can't say much about 05:45 as I have never willingly been awake at that time!

Looks like Vancouver couold do with some of our heat though by the sound of it

I got 8000kg/year! I don't own a car and I only made one plane trip last year and that was to France.

I have 5 trees in my garden as well, that must entitle me to a discount surely?!

america refuses to sign the protocol i forgot the name but really its a treaty to make sure you prevent pollution, and also america is contributing the largest portion of pollution
come to think of it america is a non-badminton country

    It's the Kyoto Protocol..

..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyoto_Protocol..If you go that link and take a peek, actually there are 2 countries who refused to sign the treaty: U.S. & Australia. The U.S. actually was one of the signatory of the protocol but it never ratified nor refused from signing it. The histroy goes back to the Clinton era. Current president Bush hasn't ratified the protocal because China for some reason has some sort of an exemption.
While it's true that the U.S. is one of the contributor, arguably the biggest one, to the "global warming", but i wouldn't go as far as saying they're the ONLY "culprit". You've got S. Americas, Europe, Russia, China/S.E. Asian region, India.....all those quenching for oil to feed their ever growing economies...well, basically most if not all of the countries in the world are contributors.:p :( ;)

anybody here from UK went beachcombing for spilled goods from the stranded cargo ship? I see on tv people hauling from the beach new BMW motorbikes, auto parts like transmission, exhaust system, etc, perfumes, diapers, exotic dog foods. Look like 90% of cargo still on the sinking ship. Maybe even 2007 yonex equips :D
