Gamma X-2 Machine
Hey,
I am currently a student. I am looking into buying a stringing machine. I was looking for something cheap, and heard about Eagnas' poor customer service and poor quality machines.
I was told about www.atssports.com and that they have good customer service. The cheapest machine there is the Gamma X-2.
If I bought this machine, I would only be using it to string up to 23 lbs cross 21lbs main. I would only be stringing my racquets (AT800 DEF), and some of my friends racquets.
The only stringer around here lives approx. 1hr away. and they arent' very good. (strings often break after 1 practice with ashaway microlegend)
So. I know that Gamma makes a good quality machine. and I was wondering if this machine (Gamma x-2) is a good choice for me. Also, what accessories would I need to buy to start stringing right away.
Is the 2 point mounting system good enough for 23 lbs. ?

Too expensive
This model is too out of my price range....sorry..
Just wondering if the X-2 is good enough for only using it 1 stringing a month

Then save money. You don't want to get stuck with a machine that will haunt you later.

You will have a lot less trouble stringing a racquet with a six-point suspension mounting system than the X-2's two-point system. Get a part-time job if you haven't already and save money for the more expensive.

i have gamma x2, it's okay. I hate weight drop machine, this is like the 8th racket i strung on it but still can not get consistant tension for racket. I tried to keep level, but still doesn't work. Also it puts dent on racket with two-point, so use cushion.
If you can afford electric get it, u won't reget it.
I wish i just get the electric one.

and the X-2 appears to have the same ratcheted drop-weight mechanism, so getting the bar level shouldn't be difficult.

the Gamma Progression II 602 is much better. Get a six-point mounting. With a two-point mounting, your racket head would deform a lot and end up being round.

Got My Machine!
Hey,
I got my stringing machine for Christmas!


Got the Gamma Progression II 602.
-6 point mting system
-drop weight
-bought 2 badminton flying clamps
Strung my first racquet!
Isometric 75 MF Light
Everything went well... I took around 18 feet string for the mains (3 of my arm spans) and it was not enough to tension the last 2 mains...I used the rest for cross and had 2 feet of string left over.
So, next time, I will give 1.5 extra feet of string for the mains (19.5 feet)
and use the rest for crosses.
But other than that, it's all going good!

18 feet should be enough. I have the same machine as you and when I used to use 18' both sides of the mains could reach the gripper, even when doing low tensions.

What tension you are doing? 18 ft should be way way enough for most of the mains. I wonder maybe you took the shorter piece (the 15 ft piece) by mistake, and used it for the main.

My usual range is 17ft for main, and 16 ft for cross, for 20+ tension.

Yeah, 18 ft is way too much.
Take a few pics when you are doing 30 + lbs
. We want to see the metal rod's tension indicator and how far away the weight is.
