According to DOHA 2006 web site profile for players:

    Susilo:
    BirthCountry: Indonesia
    Marital status Married
    Family Wife Li Jia Wei
    Languages English
    Hobbies Playing pool

but from Li Jia Wei's profile
    [IMG]
    BirthCountry China
    Marital status Single
    Family Fiance Ronald Susilo
    Languages Chinese
    Hobbies playing piano

What's wrong with these two? Besides, it is said that Li Jia Wei lives in China and Susilo lives in Singapore, they are not even live together, speak different languages, and having different hobbies... Are they really married?

How come Susilo got married, but her wife is still single?

Same thing happens to Sigit and Gong RN. Sigit said his girl friend is Gong RN while Gong RN denies, what's wrong with those people?

it just sounds another Taufik-Lin Dan scandal to me... :) English and Chinese are totally different languages, all the misunderstanding lost in the translation :) Maybe in Chinese "Single" = "Married" in English ;)

Do you mean that Ronald dumped Jiawei? If that's true, how come Ronald claimed Jiawei as his wife, while Jiawei listed herself as single? It sounds just opposite

I saw some news that Li Jiawei living in China, and playing for clubs there.

Easy answer. They've registered the marriage but not had a wedding banquet. For Ronald this means he's married, JiaWei doesn't regard herself as being married until after the wedding banquet:D (this is just a theory)

Ronald's first language is English doesn't mean he can't speak Mandarin. I know a lot of friends from Singapore who can speak either Mandarin or Cantonese.

Ronald is an ethnic Chinese grown up in Indonesia. He CANNOT speak Mandarin or Cantonese. Most ethnic Chinese grown up in Indonesia cannot speak Chinese. They could be put into jail if spoke Chinese in Indonesia (maybe I am wrong).

A bit off topic - some brief history & one of the big reason..

..a lot of the "current" generation of Chinese-Indonesians(20s to even the 40s yr olds) can't really speak mandarin because, i believe, around the yr 1956-58, all Chinese schools were "closed" by the govt. I believe it was during the Sukarno's regime. Eventhough @ that time Sukarno, individually, was pro-Chinese and had good relations with China, it was his govt. people/regulations that "forced" all the foreign schools to be closed; not only the Chinese schools but also the Dutch schools, anything to do with non-Indonesian were closed. Main reason:they have some "prejudice" towards Chinese and non-Indonesian speaking groups, most likely in fear of the govt. losing control. Then later on, even those Indonesian-born citizens of Chinese descent were required to change their Chinese names to Indonesian names(ie. hence the Gunawan, Widjaja, Hartono etc.);)
Thus that's why now you see only their parents who can speak mandarin while their kids are can not or somewhat very limited. Or only those kids who were taught at home or sent to private tutors will be able to speak/read/write mandarin...But nowadays, i heard the govt. has started to be less strict and has allowed those schools, which were closed, to be open again...
just a bit of history for you guys who are wondering..;)

Thanks, ctjcad. No wonder most of my friends from Malaysia and Singapore can speak Mandarin or Cantonese, but none of my friends from Indonesia can speak any Chinese.

    Hi ctjcad,

You are wrong man. yr 1956 - 58 still have the chinese school in indonesia (Sukarno Goverment). This time, a lot chinese can speak chinese and can use chinese label included chinese name.

But after Sukarno...Yes.... (1965 - 1998) the all label (Shop, fabric, chinese tradition, name, etc) and all Chinese school must close....

After Sukarno is Suharto... This people allow chinese to do business and not allow to do politic....and This people discrimination with chinese. it means Dictator...
