I haven't played with natural gut in over a decade, but I did.

biggest negative - doesn't last all that long for the price.

Other negative is that you can't go high tentions either.

Other than bad durability - gut was bloody amazing - excellent touch and very good power. I'd say it's the standard most synthetics are trying to emulate.

At the time I was only stringing around 18 lb so gut was fine. You'd have to check with the vendor to see what the specs are on tension are.

i myself only have some more negatives:

    1) difficult to find places to buy and string it for you
    2) expensive both for the guts and labour

finally, i myself have decided to use BG66...saving enough money to buy X'mas present for kid

Hard to explain the positives - it's the feeling when you hit the shuttle, when you spin it at the net. Personally they were the 'best' strings I could remember. Unfortunately I don't remember the brand names. Only thing I remember they were manufactured either in England or Australia. Also used the Chinese made ones, but the feeling is different.

Durability was the problem, I had to replace the strings every 2/3 weeks. The strings that I use now and feel closer to the 'gut' strings are the YY BG85.

Try it and let us know about your experience.

It has been a long time since I last played with natural gut. I used to use only Babolat natural gut.
The great advantages of natural gut are its extraordinary resilience, elasticity, and excellent creep property. The disadvantage is that more often than not you get a lemon which breaks easily. They are also very expensive. Because of its excellent resilience and creep properties, it should not be tensioned at a high tension-reduce the tension by about 4-5lbs when compared with synthetics. Get the best natural gut-and the best ones come from New Zealand-and if the string does not break prematurely, you will experience that freshly strung string feel and touch for the life of the string, unlike the best of synthetics that lose their crispness after a few days. If the natural gut string does not break prematurely, it will work out to be better and cheaper than synthetics, on a playbility basis.
