Taufik still 17-18 years old when he told the media after winning an open tournament that his long time goal was to win an olympic gold and to be a world champion. It took him some (painful) years before he saw his dreams come true. After winning the Athens Olympic gold, did not he say that his next target was to be the world champion?

ctjcad in one post said, that after winning the World Championship in 2005, Taufik told the media that his next target was 2006 Asian Games.
And indeed, we saw he won the gold. Meanwhile he has lost interest in the world championship since it is held every year. He valued Asian Games more because it is a once in every 4 years event.

So it is interesting to know what's next in Taufik's mind. And he did not mention All England nor any open tournaments. He did not even mention one tournament in 2007. This is what he said : “I’ll go to Beijing to defend my Olympic title but I won’t be there in the 2010 Asian Games." http://thestar.com.my/sports/story.asp?file=/2006/12/11/sports/16283414&sec=sports

I hope he will still has the ability to deliver when the time has come to fulfil his dream once again. I guess it will be more difficult, because he is getting older and other players getting stronger.

    Taufik, good luck.

    ^^^My suggestion to Taufik^^^

..I know he wants to create another history, but Taufik, don't look too much ahead to 2008...And esp. train yourself & don't just promise this and that...Take one day, 1 month and 1 yr at a time...2007 is next and focus on getting yourself ready to get the All-England title(your only missing *major title*), get back the Sudirman Cup, try to get your 2nd World Championship title and, lastly, win the Super Series Grand Prix Finale....Those are the main focus for next yr...
After all those, then you'll have another 7-8 months to prepare for Beijing.. :p :) ;)

*Side note:Yes, he did say that, but he also said he also would like to win 2006 AE, getting back the Thomas Cup & try to defend his WC title...

Oh, i just noticed indra is back online with us..;):D

You mean 2007 All England. 2006 AE already over.

    thanks.
all the tournaments you mentioned in 2007 will be 'sasaran antara untuk mencapai sasaran utama'. He knows what he wants. He may win some, lost some, and Lin Dan and other players may beat him easily, or with difficulty. In a bad day, I guess even a BFforumer can beat him in a match:D.
But what really matters is in Bejing 2008. He really needs to work on his stamina, though. And I do hope he will deliver

that is the vital thing that remain to be seen whether he can keep up to OG08. skills and techniques no problem at all but if it is not supported by his stamina, then I don't think so. Agree or not, in term of fitness, he is not at peak yet, so will he able to work on his fitness and stamina to reach certain level and carry him until OG08? ...well, we shall just see in 2007 first then we can talk again what is gonna be for 2008 or even OG....

I also remember what is TH's statement following his triumphant at WC Anaheim/05, he said my next target is AE/06. But in the fact he didn't compete because busy w/ his married, later he said Madrid/06 after his lost in Thomas Cup, next AG/06 fortunately he won. As usual, TH's project can change continuously, much better ignore it -- he always make bombastic target after he win something.

Really can't imagine he will get Beijing Gold when he will turn 27 and many tough opponents are ready to defeat him esp. CHN's rookie star CJ plus LD-LCW and others. If he can defend his Olympic GOLD, WoW what can we say TH is the luckiest shuttler! INA certainly hope this dream comes true...

i would say for OG08, the realistic indo gold target is for kido/hendra rather than taufik.

:) Yes I remember about him mentioning All England, with he said the only major tournament he never win. But I guess he still can try at least in 2007 and 2008. And when he mentioned about Thomas Cup, don't forget he added that Sutiyoso wanted it. It's not his own project. :p

And yes, he changed his mind about Madrid/06. But even before that WC started, he has said that for him the WC has become an ordinary tournament and that he value Asian Games more. Judging from his attitude toward the WC, even PBSI official warned us not to expect much from Taufik to defend his title as world champion
He proved his word on this AG, though.

If Taufik can defend his Olympic Gold, I would not say that he is the luckiest player, rather a great player with the greatest determination ever. :)

Also he said that 2008 Beijing Olympic will be his last international major tournament, so I guess he will give his best effort again.
Just like what he did here in Doha, which he said the last AG for him.

It will all depend on him.
Thought he said he might retired?
Anyway, Poul Erik Hoyer Larsen did it at the age of 30 and reach peak form around that age.
So I do not see why one cannot play well at late 20s.

Wasn't he born in '81 or something? He'll only be 27 then. Even Hendrawan won Olympic silver at 28 and the WC at 29. Taufik seems to get injured often, though. It's hard to say whether he will last.

I hope Taufik tries but I extremely, highly, doubt he will be able to defend his title. I doubt he will even make the team in '08. :p

So far only one name MS who have participated in three OG, Danish Poul Erik Hoyer Larsen, details :
    1st -- Barcelona/92 at age 27 (3/4 seed)
lost to Ardy B.Wiranata in QF
    2nd -- Atlanta/96 at age 31 (2nd seed)
success as Gold Medalist defeated CHN's Dong Jiong in final
    3rd -- Sydney/00 at age 35 (5/8 seed)
hmm,not superior again lost to CHN's Sun Jun in R/32

Probably TH and PG will follow Poul's step soon. From Sydney to Beijing, can one of them close their bdm career w/ sweet memory?? TH and PG story in previous Olympic Games below:

    - Sydney/00 = TH as top-seed lost to CHN's Ji Xinpeng in QF meanwhile PG(3/4 seed) also defeated by same person Ji XP at SF
    - Athens/04 = TH as 5/8 seed made glorious here and PG (3/4) lost to TH in QF
    - Beijing/08 = TH? PG? Wait and See.

    Hi ALL,

Only Taufik Hidayat From Indonesia got Asian Games, Olimpic, and World C titles.....

Now, Only All England Taufik Target and depend the Olimpic Title....

If Taufik Can Win All England 2007/2008/2009, All Titles Completed by Taufik..

For Example: Zou JianHua and Yang Yang don't have Olimpic Title because they lost to Hermawan Susanto from Indonesia....

I predict, Taufik will be retired in 2010/2011....not early... it means: Still can join the 3-5 times the all england and Taufik will be the one of the legend Player...

I think taufik can win the all england, so he will be the great player on the world...: Asian Games (2 times), Olimpic (1 time.....can be 2times), World C, and All England (maybe 2007/2008/2009/2010/2011).....

So a lot of players from Indonesia got the Legend and Great Player (Tan Joe Hok, Ferry S, Rudy Hartono, Liem Swie King, Lius Pongoh, Heryanto Arbi, Alan Budikusuma, Susi Susanti, Ivana Lie, Verawati F, Hendrawan, Ardy BW, Chun Chun/Johan Wahyudi, Cristian H/Ade chandra,etc.....)... All of them the legend.... And will coming soon the a few legends: Taufik CSSSS......

From China also got alots legend... (Tang XinHu, Hou Jia Chiang, Fang Kai Hsiang, Luan Jin, Han Jian, Sun Jun, Yang Yang, Zou Jian Hua, etc)......... And will coming soon the a few legends: Lin Dan CSSS...

The first Player from China: Tang XinHu, Hou Jia Chiang, Fang Kai Hsiang (All of them was born in Indoesia....so Indonesian Revolution... them parents decided to back to china, so three of them play for china at time

Tang XinHu, Hou Jia Chiang, Fang Kai Hsiang, the Great Players... They introduce the Modern Badminton.......So after them era all china and Indenesia Player just follows the modern badminton....

Malaysia, Korea, Denmark also have but not alot of than Indonesia and China.

Indonesia and China are Badminton SuperPower right now.... Sorry the rest... is no...

As far as I know, this is only true for Men Single.
In MD for example, Ricky/Rexy also got all the titles you mentioned,... and many more titles.
I do not know about WS, WD, or XD.
