15th Asian Games/Badminton: Chong Wei competed despite stress fracture 13 Dec 2006(NST) LEE Chong Wei’s men’s singles bronze medal in the Doha Asian Games is not without a price. Chong Wei, who took the risk of competing despite suffering a stress fracture on his right ankle during training four weeks before the Games, now faces the danger of relinquishing both his Malaysia Open and national crowns. Chong Wei will be gunning for his fourth consecutive Malaysian Open title at the KLBA Stadium on Jan 16-21 and needs to compete in the Kuala Lumpur Open at the same venue next week to qualify for the National Grand Prix Finals. The BA of Malaysia (BAM) high performance manager Lim Kok Wye, however, confirmed that Chong Wei suffered the injury during training and not during a road accident in November in which he sustained a head injury. He needed six stitches on his forehead before recovering in time to compete in Doha. Chong Wei was beaten by Lee Hyun Il in the crucial semi-final match against South Korea where Malaysia lost 1-4 to settle for bronze. However, the 24-year-old clinched the bronze in the men’s singles. Kim Hock and Chong Wei, who returned to Malaysia on Monday, could not be contacted for comments.
oh my god... plz lee.. plz dun force urself too much... i dunwan to see u can't back to top form caz a long injuries... if can,dun compete in KL open la... i really hope lee can retain his MO title... but there is not much time for him to rest... he muz think smart... plz becareful... hope god bless u... plz recover fast...
Hard to fault him to want to compete so much, he don't want to wait another four more years. It is this kind of spirit we want. Not giving up easily and not giving excuses when lost.
Is it wise to keep training and playing with a stress fracture? Even in English Premier League guys are out for a few weeks with stress fractures. You don;t want the fracture to get bigger!
LCW needs a break and skips Mal Open. There is plenty of opportunities next year other than Mal Open.
i think LCW won't give up the MO becoz of tat... so i think maybe skipping KL open will be ok for him... he muz think wisely... if winning KL open is more important than Malaysia Open or his career... then i got nth to say abt it... hope someone can giv him some advice, maybe WMC... hahaha...
YES! haha if LD goes (I really hope now ) he will win as LCW won't be there but it's his homecrowd, he would never do that
