Hi, i'm doing a project for physics class on badminton. I was wondering about string tension, different shuttlecocks, shoes, and anything else you can think of to help me. thanks

Hmm, you'll probably need to be more specific about that... what about those things are looking to know?

how different tensions affect control, power ect. different velocities and flight paths of shuttlecocks, what is important in shoes and why and anything else like that

how about explore the quality of different strings? like elasticity of different strings? it'd be interesting to see the plot of stress vs. strain for different type of strings.

further exploration on pre-stretching strings. strings do "plastic deformation" as they get stretched (that's why string loses tension after a week). see how long it takes to get stretched, and how much it gets stretched and how that affects the tension...

that should be enough for a good project.

    shoes are relatively more boring.

Shoes may be too challenging if we were to take the human body into account . If The Fuge really want to do shoes, include a report of different insoles such as SUPERFEET GREEN Vs. OEM Vs. others.

    here is one interesting one...

you guys have an air hockey table? stretch a piece of badminton string on one end, and then bounce a puck on there and measure the velocity of the puck towards and bounced from the string, do it at different tensions and different velocities, and then plot it and see how the bounce gets affected. the measurement will be tough though as it will probably involve a strobe light and camera.
