I'm not trying to start a consipracy theory here, but something we noticed with the last few shipments of Gosen Pro-70 what the colored string seemed to have a much shorter lifespan than the clear (slightly white).

Now this is based on several people who have been using the Pro -70 and it got me pondering if anyone else has noticed something like this.

Being that most string is polymer based - in order for dye to be uniform it would ether have to be extruded with the filament ( i.e possible altering the structure of the resin) or post treated such that the dye is absorbed, which leads me to thiink that is might also have some effect on the polymer structure.

    anyone?

Okay, yes I'm bored and there is nothing on TV.

Not a conspiracy. I have, for a long time, felt that across the board (all the strings I've tried), the white/clear color plays best and lasts longer than its colored counterpart.

Why? I don't know but I have many identical rackets strung the same way but with different color strings of the same brand and the white always plays better and lasts longer. Go figure. :p

From my own experience, white/clear colour is my first choice no matter what kind of strings for obvious reasons(better durability and playability)

From a textile guy's point of view, dyed nylon strings have reduced life span. I forgot the exact liqour bath used but the nylon is subjected to very high heat during the process.

I'm not certain about other strings but I'm very confident on BG66 and BG80, white plays superior (it's more repulsive) and is more durable.

I haven't had the chance to test this theory on Ashaway string but am doing so right now with MP. So far the blue and orange MP play the same. Not sure about the white yet...stay tuned.

is white the original string colour then?
i would have thought that it would have been colourless, and the dyed white which would also mean that its performance is the same as its coloured counterparts.
good thing i naturally go for white anyways!

hmm, interesting convo. Maybe that's why my colour strings feel a little dead.

I've definitely noticed it as well, although I guess my evidence is purely subjective.

Black string didn't last particularly long.

And I'm not sure what colour the original synthetic fibre is... someone will have to look into it!

most ( but not all) virgin ploymer is an off white/clear. With recycled plastics it tends to come out an olive green or dark brown depending on the feed stock.

yellow seems to be the most common color in edmonton ---
also i agree that for yonex string, all the string colors are dyed cause white string is dyed white -- there is no undyed [yonex] string

On the flip side coloured strings are good for your game and that crispy feel. Because they break sooner you are forced to use new strings more frequently, and new strings play better than aged strings.

i have the exact same findings for the BG66 and BG85!
BG66 gold however plays and lasts rather similarly enough to BG66 white!

What are your views on Ashaway Microlegend XL. From what I remember (I havent used that racket in a while) the string as a whole isn't dyed but there are different coloured strands.

No Sir, I am an equal opportunity string breaker and the lighter colors break less and play better. :D

ML and ML-XL only have two colors. Between the two, I could not tell a difference.

On another note, among MP, the orange and blue play the same. However, the white plays differently and the string look as well as texture is different when compared to the orange/blue. I cannot say for sure what the difference is but it's definitely different. Still testing... :p
