I am shopping for a new racquet to replace my great Cab. 20 since I have been using it for ages. I want a bit more power but really am going for a change.

I am a doubles-player. Is Cab.30MS a good replacement for me than the Armortec 800?

    Thanks.

I have a Cab30MS JP 2U-G4. I would say it makes for a better singles racket than a doubles racket. It is long, head-heavy, and stiff. As one would expect, it has great power on smashes and clears; however, it lacks touch and feel at the net. Also, it is slower on defense. I havn't tried a 3U, so I can only speak for the 2U version.

For doubles, I would recommend the MP100 2U. It is stiff, aerodynamic, and has a somewhat even balance compared to most other rackets I have tried. For me, it has good defense and great offense. Cheers.

In 3U OK, but in 2U no way. 2U is way too overbearing for doubles.

I have 2 CAB30 MS 3UG4 (bought from san diego badminton supply). I use them mainly for doubles and find them a tad lighter, less stiff and less head heavy when compared to my 2 MP99 3UG5. I've relegated my MP99s to singles or if i feel like playing more of a power game.

And if you're wondering, i add one layer of Wilson Pro overgrip on top of the yonex default grip. Hope this helped.

Are you referring to the AT800 DEF??? Although i've never played with it, i've heard very good things about this racket. In my opinion, if you're restrained by budget, the CAB30 is terrific value for the money you spend. I plan on phasing out my MP99s with CAB30 MS if i were to buy more rackets in the future. Whichever comes first: 1) racket breaks or 2) cab30 3U is discontinued.

I'm hoping 1 is not the case =) I'm sure Sir Dink the Gentle Panda would agree!!

I have both Cab20ms (2U) and Cab30ms(3U). I will say Cab30 has more power because it is longer and the Ult ti in the shaft. However, it does has less feeling to the touch. I was able to adjust it by using 2 lb extra on the tension to comp the difference (Cab30 @22.5X25 lb vs Cab20 @21X23 lb) I feel if you have the tech and experience, Cab30 is a better choice for you. If you are looking for quick fix (no the drug term) to your game, get AT800 for double. Both Cab30 and AT800 are good racquets.
PS. I am biased, Cab30ms are stronger and more likly to survive in a clash IMHO.

Sir Heart, you should try my Cab 20 Tour then. It's significantly more powerful than my Cab 30MS 3U, while still retaining the touch and feel of the original Cab 20. :D

Funny you should mention this. Here's my 3U Cab30MS, freshly cracked from a few days ago. But I'm not 100% at fault, when I purchased it, there was a hairline fracture already. :p

You mean the modified one (with MP gromments) or the ones in general?

Personally, I get more power and more feeling in cab30ms (3ug4) than cab20ms (2ug4). Maybe simply a heavier and stiff cab20ms is totally out of my comfortable (due to strength) range.

I don't think the modified ones with the grommets with or without make much difference on power.

I've hit a regular Cab 20 and the Cab 20 Tour and Tour Special are both significantly stiffer and more powerful. Easily more powerful than a 3U Cab30 MS, for me.

Clarification: a few people were worried about my Cab30MS. Thanks, but no need. I purchased the racket with the hairline chip knowingly because I can get a free replacement. It just happen to crack a few days ago. So I'm getting it replaced, for free. :)

Cab30ms is a well made all around racket. In theory, it might not be ideal for doubles, as it's oval and quite stiff. However, whatever other ppl say not necessarily true for you. Try to get ur hand on it, and demo it.

Personally, I packed quite a few cab30ms, and most of my games are doubles. ;)

Quite stiff? I find it one of the most forgiving rackets in the Yonex (premium) line. Quite flexible for a Cab. :p

Regardless, the Cab 30MS in 3U is an excellent all-around racket. Quite a few top players locally use it in doubles. :)

Dink is hairline fracture bad? Because i think my raquet has it quite close to T joint. (MP 66)

It's never good. If it's just the paint/surface coat, no worries. However, if it's all the way to the graphite, eventually, your racket may crack.

I bought my Cab30MS to use as a backup for an MP77. Both are 3UG4. After a single day of playing with both, I have switched over to the Cab. Power on clears and smashes is comparable to the MP, yet control and defense are superior on the Cab for me. I can lift smash returns to the baseline much easier with the new racket. Btw, I use two layers of overgrip, so the racket does not feel head heavy at all. I think the BP was around 290mm with my setup last time I checked.

imo, cab30 is the best bang for the buck of current models. LB done his homework on this one...

    :D :D :D

I agree that's the best bang for the buck (with US market price range of USD$100-120). However, if you stock 8, then it's still a lot of bucks...
