we actually have a speed-o-meter at our club (since 3 days)...btu ti's nto as good as the pro ones. it rarely detects the shuttle (measuring at the net, 1 feet radius, 3 according to the package...) and form what they said it shoudl be +20km/h from what I reads... I got it up to 171 (191?) km/h good enough for me... Though there're a lot of problems with such speed-o-meters: -ours has a limit of 200 (thus 220) km/h... -there's an "angle error" if you smash downwards along it measuring path Pythagoras kicks in...
lolol. Thats pretty funny. So it only measures the speed on the x-axis? I wonder if I can even get it past 100 km/h ^_^
?? ?? You mean 191km/hr is 119mph? There shouldn't be that much error in only measuring the X axis. unless you jump really high to hit down, the angle of most power smashes I would say (guessing) would be 15 degrees angle before gravity makes it steeper. I am not sure how other systems measure the speed. anyone know? I am amazed a club has spents its money on such a tool-was it purchased just for amusement or for training purposes? BTW I separated the thread since I think this was not related to original question about ther fastest smash.
i tried once with a professional one that seemed to be quite accurate and i got 209 km/h. The only time tha accuracy were wrong is when we got a frame shot cause the speedometer measured the vibration.
err, thanks James, you're right...(kidna of a surprise, Hey, I created a thread, wtf?) Well, I don't think it costs too much, since it is a bit rubbish...(it needs 2 feet of X-axis to measure) and it rarely detects the shuttle (the real IBF ones pick up everything on court..) the director said it's nto just for shits and giggles (if it really works) but also for measuring footwork-speed or sprint speed...to check progress..
Does sound like it would be a bit of a laugh. I know a few guys at my club would go wild over something like that! I should imagine it would be useful though to see how you smash improved with practice.
