sorry if this is a repeated topic but after reading similar ones and the equipment guide i still cant figure out what to get I need some suggestions on what to buy for a first racket i'm 14 years old and i've been in the sport for about 1 and a half years and ive been using a very old racket (says made from "tempered steel shaft) my price range is about $100-$200 and ill be need to use it later this year for competition any suggestions?, thanks in advance
sorry for double post, edit doesnt work other info: 2-4 times a week 2 hours each time im a more defensive player i need durability because i dont plan to spend a lot on another racket for a few years, needs sufficient performance though
Are you thinking any particular brands? The best thing would be for you to go to your local pro shop and try out demos, as only you can know for sure what you need.
can you suggest some rackets i should try by yonex, carlton, victor, or others because i virtually know nothing about any rackets available at the place i go.
That's really hard to say because some racquets (rather than racquet models) last longer than others. The other thing is that manufacturers change their lineup every few years so If we have a racquet that is recommended as long lasting(because it has lasted 4 years), it might not be available for sale now.
A tactic I used before was to go for a mid range racquet but to get two of them. If an expensive one breaks (or the strings breaks) you still have the other one to play with.
ok thanks for your input but i dont plan on getting 2 rackets the racket has to last through this year to next year's tryouts (so about 1 and /2 year) i still need suggestions for rackets please or elaborate on "mid-range racquet"
For High School level, try Kason Carvel U3 ($50), Victor SuperNano ($100), Gosen 3700 ($130), Yonex Nanospeed 6000 ($160.00). Try to get a racket that is light, easy to use, quick for defense.
thanks for your input, but im trying to get the best durability/performance i can, i would rather pay more money and get a racket that will last me a long time any more racket suggestions?
Actually, what happens is that a more expensive racquet does not equal better durability! That's why I suggest spending less on a racquet but having two racquets. If your string breaks during (or just before) tryouts, you'll be :crying:
i see your point but right now im trying to figure out which single racket i want to get can soemone give me some suggestions? price range: 100-200 $ Primarily for defensive im currently looking at: yonex nanospeeds? <any input or suggestions?
Also add SOTX Woven 8 in the chart. Personally, I don't suggest to go with more than $100 at this moment, same reason as Cheung provided. If really want to go with Yonex brand, cab series (21, 20ms, 30ms) definitely worth a try, as they are relatively not expensive and known as durability.
KASON also has the lepton series..but i guess that's too light for a boy.Use 4U,rather that 5U.Find a yonex racquete that has the 4U version, like Armortec 800DE.There's no nanospeed that's light enough.
ok, i guess right now im between the yonex nanaospeed 6000 and armortec series, which would you choose and why?
Listen to Cheung. If you want to compete I must say you really should get two rackets. Mr Murphy will show up at your court side when most inappropiate if you only have one racket. Be asssured that you *will* break a string during a match, it's not a matter about if, it is when... Also if you occasionally are playing doubles the risk of breaking the racket is multipled since now you will for sure clash with your partner, just hope not too often too bad:crying:
Po, Where do you live in CA? There are many BF member live in CA. Please PM them and ask if you can try out the racquet. If you are in So CAL, SGVBC has demo racquet for you to check it out. Many places in San Jose area has demo too. Try out the racquet before you buy. Also, get 2 racquets as Cheung say.
ok, i get the two rackets part but which two should i get? i was thinking about the nanospeed 6000 but 2 of them might be too expensive, what are my other options
You can use muscle power series.... its not expensive and for 200 $ you can get 2 of them..!!!! like MP-25 or less... its easy to control, not to heavy ...
U can try out AT 500,i loved that racket till i got a AT800 def U can also try out the lower AT series, like 150 and 300,i was holding a AT150 yesterday it was really light the AT 500 is around 180$(Canadian dollars) and the 150 is about 100$ from sportscheck(i think lol)
ok so im confused right now first, someone says muscle power and now armortec? what is the difference between AT, MP, and NS? also, im looking for a racket thats not too light
