I've just played one hour with a guy in singles and I spent most of that time only doing overarm clears/smashes/drops as he wants to practise his backhand.

My shoulder is givingme hassle now. but when I play with other people I can easily play three hours of doubles.

So are overarm shots meant to be very tiring?

Nope. One hour should be quite straightforward.

If you have to move left right across the whole of baseline
One hour continously should be kinda tired.

If you are standing in a fix position receiving the ball. One hour should be just right.Anything more will strain your muscles.
of course,it would have to depend on your muscles' endurance/strength

I played gaain two hours later, I was recovered by then.

I don't know why, clearing and smahes take a lot out of me, my shoulderblade area was knackered. Repeatedly doing those shots tired my arm out, but playing a normal singles game is fine.

Not only that, My weakness appears to be clearing it, I cannot do clears when I have to walk dart backwards quickly, sucks.

if you have to move backwards and bounce forward to hit the overarm shot you'd probably tire a lot faster.
try to relax your arm more, as stiff arms/shoulders make you tire faster too.
bottomline is to master the forehand swing technique, which is not as easy as it seems, if you want to be able to clear baseline without using much effort

That's normal... even when doing baseline to baseline clears with recovery back to the centre, I'm extremely tuckered out after only ten minutes...
