Lin Dan uses Yonex BG-65 and many other top players. Do you know why?

As DinkaLot considers the BG-80 the best string, also the Yonex
representative in my country (Portugal) considers the same.

I use Nanogy 95. It is a very good string; has a good power and the sound (I know that is not very importantm but feels good) is very interesting.

At this level almost everything has a strong motive. It seams to me, that in this case, there is a technical reason.

lindan has strong arm, he use bg-65 (now bg-65p)in consideration that the string will stay at frame and not broke easily.
imagine that he use bg-66, how many racket he should provided as back up???

Ok, but yonex says that Nanogy 95 has more repulsion power and the same durability. Why he didn't use it instead of BG-65; if it is BG-65p, it will depend on his preference.

Baderz Jas is saying that Lin Dan was using BG-65 Ti and before he used BG-80. Do you know why he has changed?

It's stated on the Yonex poster that he won Olympic Gold using BG66 while Silver medalist Shun was using BG80.

Search "Taufik BG66" in these forums.

String is personal preference to an extent...

...I have a theory on strings but can't scientifically quantify it.

I'll just say this, I get more power from BG80 (a thicker string) than I do from BG66 (a thinner string) when it comes to all out smashing. This has to do with the ultimate repulsion of the string. A thicker string will generally have a higher ultimate limit, if you can move it.

Though I can smash harder with BG80, drives, backhands, shots that aren't overhead/forehand shots will be harder/faster with BG66 because I won't overflex the string. Whereas on a smash I will.

    That's the trade-off.

AOTBE thinner strings have more repulsion power than thick strings at high tension. Thicker strings at high tension are almost at their elasticity and flexibilty limits. However, thinner strings lose tension faster than thick strings, which may change the power balance as the strings age. You need strength to hit thick strings that are strung at high tension to get power. With thinner strings you can get the same power with less strength. The racquet head speed is also faster with thinner strings.
BG80 and BG85 are thicker than BG66. Although all three are close in repulsion power, despite the thicker strings of BG80 and BG85, this is so because they are made from different materials. BG80 and BG85 have a sliver of vectran, which has excellent creep properties, and hence improved elasticity. Its improved elasticity and creep properties are offset by BG66's thinner gauge, thus resulting in more or less equal repulsion power for all three. BTW, BG85 has more repulsion power than BG80, although it is not shown as such in the Yonex string chart, which is more approximate than finely calibrated.

Yonex should make BG66 with Vectran.

    I'll comparing BG80 to BG85 right now...

...in the past, I believe BG80 to be more powerful but didn't have side by side comparisons.

    agree with taneepak...

in addition, IMO, can you imagine Lin, with his power, with a high repulsion string on his racket? he'll probably over-clear. maybe he wants to "tame" or "balance" his power versus the actual repulsive properties of his choice of string. my 2cents worth...

So all of you guys think that Taufik doesn't have a lot of power? How come Taufik doesn't over-clear with BG66? :D

From my opinion, he is able to control his strength, when to blast it real hard, when to reduced.

I definitely do not agree with this. You can't possibly think a player would try to limit power on purpose through his equipment. The whole reason of developing new racket and string technology is to improve upon the past. A professional is well trained enough to control the extra power, and unleash it when need be.

you're right about the purpose of string development. it just makes you think why the good OLD BG65 is still the string of choice.
i read somewhere that the bg65 is the best string to deal with super high tensions. like we, lesser mortals, would benefit from a bg85 at 28lbs, but LD may need the bg65 to achieve the same effectivity without risking snapping his strings during matches. actually, what i posted was only ONE of the things that went through my head. if i post them all, i might get booted out of the forum

    cheers ;)

That is true, I'm sure he'd go through strings faster than Dink goes through sweatbands. Speaking of the devil, he has a very interesting theory about why LD might use thicker strings, and it sounds pretty viable. Just like string tension - at high tensions there is more repulsion but only if one is able to fully flex the strings. Same concept might apply to thicker strings.
