Isthe pics showing a new Venue/sports centre going to be built in time for this in Odense?? Seems like architect drawings.. /Twobeer
Yup, correct.. I think it will be finished soon.. The arena will be 8.500 m2. Next to Odense Congress Center, south eastern part of Odense, actually the place is quite far away from the city centre.
Thanks for sharing those infos & pics.. ..yannie, any other details of the arena??..from the pics, it looks like it's a 2 to 3-stories construction..some other queries from me, if you don't mind, as i've searched the internet but all i've found are websites in Danish: -is that number just the building size or the whole complex?? looking at the size, it's just abt more than 2 acres..It's quite sizeable, but for comparison purpose & i think if the math serves me right, it's abt 1/7th the size of the Honda Center, formerly known as Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim(venue of 2005 WC) . -ie. seating capacity, -I assume it's an income producing venue, which main client will be using it most of the time??..any specific sports team?? or it'll basically act similar to a Convention Center..
It's built to attract big sport and cultural events in Odense. e.g. World Championships in Badminton and Denmark Open in Badminton. Date of the official opening of this arena is September 15th 2007. Seating capacity: 4000 Hmm, it should be the size of the hall.
Hi, I have a friend who lives in Odense actually, so I am very tempted to go. Do we know who will be playing there? I heard that previous events didn't have any Chinese players in...?
Hey Captain Jack, didn't see your post before now! We don't know who will be playing here until like 2 weeks before, where the draw will be published. But everything can change until the day before the tournament starts. E.g. Last year Tan Boon Heong/Hoon Thien How pulled out of DO, cuz TBH had to prepare for Asian Games. Some players might get injured etc, but there won't be any drastic changes. I remember last year, few days before the tournament, we still didn't know who came with what flight and which players stayed at which hotels etc.. cuz their badminton federations were too slow to hand in those info. There were problems with hotels cuz overbooked at Scandic Plaza in the heart of the city.. Later most (or all?) countries' players needed to stay at Scandic Aarhus, far from city centre. You are wrong. Chinese players come every year. It's just that China didn't send their first team in 2005 and 2006 - but their backup team. I think China's top shuttlers will be sent here this year though, since players need to earn points for OG qualification through this 6* Supereries event. Anyway, come to Odense! It's a small and cosy town.. I'm looking forward to see many many players with long black YONEX coats someday in October this year..

wow, that's pretty neat, i can't see the webcam prolly cause the office firewall blocks just about everything but can see the scrapbook. looks like it's coming up nicely. at least the danes are better with scheduling than the brits, who are always over budget and late!
