after every practics/game i feel my shoulder in pain the most. it generally last 3 to 4 days. i also feel my left hamstring a bit. i know these two are not related. i only play once or twice a week. what do you guys think i did wrong? how to avoid them?
would it have anything to do with how to smash? cause i remember when i didnt know how to smash everytime i smashed my shoulder would hurt a bit :S
My right hamstring and butt muscle are aching from lessons cuz of the foot work etc. But about your shoulder...uhh get it checked be a specialist.
Since the pain is repeat and prolonged, I suggest you see a sport physician. In the meantime, I suggest extensive stretching, icing, and general strengthening of the area. There are many exercises you can do in the weight room with light weights to strengthen this area. As to why your shoulder hurts according to the description you've given... I feel that it is one of three reasons, most likely. They are: 1) Overexertion... playing more than your muscle is used to/can handle. This can be solved by strengthening and 'breaking yourself in' to playing more slowly as well as taking time off. 2) Underdevelopment/overdevelopment of surrounding muscle groups... this needs to be identified by a doctor. Sometimes imbalances of strength will cause more strain to be put on a specific muscle than would ordinarily occur. 3) Improper form. Your overhand stroke technique could be putting undue strain on the area, and I suggest you have a coach or high level player to examine your stroke to make sure that this isn't a cause, since this is an easy correction for the pain. Do you warm up properly? Expecting cold muscles to work hard is asking for problems. If you do warm up correctly and still have problems then you need to stop playing for a while and consult a sports injury practitioner as quickly as possible, pain is your body’s way of telling you not to do something. If the injury is treated and recurs its perhaps a technique issue which would require you too either alter your style yourself or consult a professional badminton coach.
warm-up Shoulder and hamstring pain is common in badminton especially when you're starting or just finished a hard game, several reasons for this is overuse, improper technique, inadequate warm-up/stretching and actual injury. In order to avoid injury have: 1. proper warm-up (atleast 5min) 2. stretching (atleast 6 sec. per major muscle group) P.S. Warm-up is different from stretching 3. have a trainer if you plan to do competitive club level badminton 4. Have a good fitness level, you dont play badminton to be fit, you need to be fit to play badminton.
My friend complains of shoulder pain everytime he plays. It is less severe if he doesn't smash at all but when he smashes, he can sometimes hear the "cluck" sound at the shoulder joint. He thinks it is the improper smashing technique he's adopted over the years, although it is powerful and effective.
