    Seu Bock believes Round Robin format suits Chong Wei London Olympics Update

    Seu Bock believes Round Robin format suits Chong Wei London Olympics Update

    The much waited London Olympics will be played on Round Robin format and Mens Singles coach of Malaysia Tey Seu Bock thinks this will favour Lee Chong Wei in preliminary rounds of mega event, set to be held from July 27, 2012.

    World Number two shuttler Chong Wei has not been in action for quite a while due to ankle injury and if he does not undergo a proper practice run then this will endanger the country stakes during the London Games.

    However, Badminton World Federation (BWF) has introduced new Olympic format according to which players will have to clear preliminary stage as toppers to gain access to the elimination round.

    This reformation has reduced the worries of national coach Seu Bock who now believes that Chong Wei will have reasonable time to build the right momentum before the tough contests.

    He said, The Round-Robin format is good for professional players as they can use the matches to warm up for the title challenge. However, Chong Wei needs to focus on every match.

    Unlike previous edition, this coming episode of Olympics will see 16 groups in Singles category and each group will comprise of four players. Only topper of the group will reserve a seat in the knockout round of the event.

    The Malaysian maestro, who has missed Indonesia Open and Singapore Open during his recovery period, now will have couple of good matches to revive his lost form and fitness.

    Meanwhile, Seu Bock also briefed about his current physical condition and told that he is recovering at a rapid pace.

    However, he made it clear that the badminton ace is just doing light training and still not ready for his normal routine.

    He said, Chong Weis condition has improved and he feels good but we cannot push him hard right now. He is currently going through straight forward training.

    Moreover, the national coach admitted that this woeful break affected not only his physical fitness but also his mental strength.

    Probably, thats why Seu Bock asserted Chong Wei to focus on his fitness rather than his technical and tactical strategies.

    The 29-year-old shuttler will be vying to bag his first gold medal in Olympics but he will have to exceed Chinese nemesis Lin Dan, Chen Long and Chen Jin for this purpose.

    If he can get past the QF, then everything is possible. ChenJin/Chenlong will be mentally affected by him.

    Wait a minute AlanY. I thought they do .. only difference is the top 4 or top 8 if i am not mistaken do not get to play 3 players in their group.

    They play against two only as the privilege of being seeded top.

    MS is the same format as WS...but it cannot be....It's unfair for top 4 players to play only one player to go through whilst others gotta beat 3 players in the same group to go through.

    Who's the genius that came up with such ingenious...plan....

    It's not unfair, it's the whole point of seeding. Or do you believe they should also go through qualifying in each even they play just to "make it fair"??

    There are 38 or there about qualified for the MS, with 16 groups its obvious that it wouldn't be 4 in a group.
    Similar for the WS i think there are more qualified due to few of them playing both doubles.
    In the WS they do have groups of 2 players for the top seeds.

    Ok, we have 40 MS qualified, according to rule 3.3.3.2;

    Top 4 seeds are in groups of 1; and the other 12 groups will have 3 players each that made a total of 40.

    And we have 46 WS qualified, with that we have

    top 2 seeds in groups of 2; and
    the rest 14 groups with 3 each.
    Total of 46

    so, if fat boy is preparing LCW for group matches he better has his Plan B ready

    hmm... sorry, I am still very confused.

    http://www.bwfbadminton.com/file_dow...d=347510&tid=1

    "3.3.3.1. The seeded players shall be placed at top of each group as follows:
    a) No. 1 placed at the top of Group A
    b) No. 2 placed at the top of Group P
    c) No. 3 and 4 drawn by lot at the top of Groups E and L.
    d) No. 5 to 8 drawn by lot at the top of Group C, G, J and N.
    e) No. 9 to 16 drawn by lot at the top of the remaining groups.

    3.3.3.2. The remaining players shall be drawn in groups as follows:
    a) 16 players in step 5 shall be drawn by lot with one player into each of the 16 groups.
    b) The remaining players shall be distributed in groups by lot in a step by step manner in the serial order until all players in the draw are placed (Step 6 to 8).
    "

    There is also a table after these two rules.

    So, the four seeds will go to the following Groups:

    No. 1 -> A
    No. 2 -> P
    No. 3 -> E (or L)
    No. 4 -> L (or E)

    And there should be four players in each of the above four Groups. Right?Name: table.jpg
