KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - Lee Chong Wei, who narrowly missed an Olympic gold medal in London, has warned that badminton faces a bleak future in Malaysia unless aspiring future champions are given better training.

The world number two was quoted by The Star daily on Friday as calling on the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to up its game.

"The BAM have to get some things right. The academy needs to have the best coaches, and (junior shuttlers) need to be taught to focus on the tactical side of the game. From what I have seen, we are lacking in these areas," Lee said.

Lee came within two points of securing Malaysia's first ever Olympic gold medal in London, but he lost to long-time nemesis Lin Dan of China in a repeat of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

was wondering about this.... follong lin dan's withdrawal from china master and japan SS, it seems to be that LD point will drop to 917XX. LCW on the otherhand, will drop 100 point only even if he dont do well in japan SS, which will place him at 917XX as well... in the end LCW will top him by just a few points.... and that probably is the least expected gift for LD wedding

Looking forward to see LCW in Japan Open. With the massive withdrawal from the CHN team, no doubt most of the MS players are eyeing LCW's scalp

....A bit kesian, but nobody really scared of the other MAS MS players yet....theres a 90 to 100% chance he'll be the only MAS player to reach the final (and that depends if he put attending LD's wedding first before Japan Open). Sweating, fighting opponents on the court or chilling, relaxing, dining at LD's wedding?

Not just reach the final. The JPN Open title is his to lose, as good as in the bag already. No way he'd be distracted by having to attend Lin Dan's wedding on the day of the final. He said he would rush over by flight (and, I add, show him the winner's trophy as a matter of fact).

I feel Lee CW's time has come to garner a couple of big titles, he still has the drive, motivation and fire in his belly to continue his winning ways. His imposing performance in the ongoing CBSL is proof of it.

Just wait for the new ranking next week... Chen Long might be the new world No.1... Lin Dan 2 and Chong Wei 3?
