Stringing Calibration Machine - in UK

Hi all,

Not long purchased a Karakal stringing machine, but would like to calibrate it to ensure accuracy, where in the UK can I purchase a decent calibration unit.

I think a regular fisherman scale can just do the trick?

As Lazy Buddy said before, just get a digital fishermen's scale. It's $30 or less. Or borrow one.

Hi folks,

I have just purchased this unit as per advice, I hope it does the job ok.

I assume, you tie one of the scale to a stationary object, and the other end of the scale to the stringing machine tensioner, and then see if the poundage on the stringing machines scale matches to that on the digital scale ???

If you are into precision, I highly recommend a small kitchen scale also. Not for calibrating the stringing machine, but for measuring racket weight. I found it to be an essential tool.

One thing we musn't assume is that readers are stupid and are easily taken in by 'untruths'. Even if they were, surely their assumed stupidity would make them just as easily susceptible to the 'truth'. Given that the righteous 'truth' endowed are notably vociferous and in the majority, then where is the threat ?

I also use a fishing scale to adjust my stringing machine. But I am surprise to find that even the fishing scale is a bit off. I used drop weights to test the scale and found that it's about 3 lbs off. So I ended up re-labeled the scale.

The quality of the scales do varies. So don't be cheap.

Make sure you purchase a digital one that recalibrates itself each time you turn on. Readily available and cheap in the U.S.

Cheers for the great advice here.

I have since calibrated my machine, and to my surprise - its between 4 and 5lbs out, I set my stringing machine to 25lbs, cranked it - and the display read between 20 and 21 over 5-6 times I tried, I have since adjusted, and now its bang on 25lbs.

Right - next problem, I seem to be losing tension, when I string a racket - the tension is superb, during the days after - it tends to lose tension, 2-3-4-5lbs i would think, is this due to my string stretching, or am I doing something wrong ??

Am using Strength-Pro Nano 70, and Yonex BG80 - and its happened to both.

instead of going by the wrong tension, can't u tell your racket feel soggy at 20-21lb, regardless what your machine said it was?
