Hey guys, just wondering about the string tension here. Does stringing 23lbs or 24lbs make much of a difference, and if so how? (BG80) Also, i heard that if you let your racquet rest approx. 3 days after stringing, the tensions stays longer or something, and that if you play with it right after stringing, you lose a lot of tension. (1-2lbs.) is any of this true? thanks.
I won't say it a big different for many. But some might realise some changes to your slicing and touch if you change from 24 to 23.
Wow..this is the first time i heard about this.Is that true?my stringer never told me about this b4..
A pound of diference (5%) you shouldnt be able to tell, two or three pounds you would probably notice.
A pound difference would be higher in sound pitch by a note appromately. From my experience, it takes about a week or so until the tension stablizes as the tension drops natually during the time frame.
You can tell the difference if you are used to 23 lbs and then go up a pound in tension, or vice versa. When you are used to a tension and then go up, you will find less bounce, but the string will give a more solid feel on power shots like smashing. If the solid feel is over done, you will find that it feels as if you were punching a brick wall. That will tire you very quickly and will produce soreness somewhere on your arm. I find newly strung strings take 3-4 days to get to the point where it (the string bed) stop softening at a rapid rate. I think playing early with a new string simply speeds up the process. I don't think the string would become worst than if you left it alone.
personally, I find higher tensions (for me, that's 25-26 lbs) to give a bit less bounce, but a lot more feel (in comparison, I find 22lbs soggy and dead, and an uncontrollable bounce) I'll give 25lbs a go in the comming weeks though the "effects" of stringing at a higher tension differ from person to person, and what tensionrange.. for some, from 18-24lbs gives loads more "power" and "feel". for others it's way to stiff to handle. for some, from 24 to 28lbs gives a lot mroe feel, and slightly less "power"..for other it's too stiff, almsot painfull to play with...
