Default She lost her race but not her confidence

During the Doha Asian Games, 15 year old Singapore sailor Griselda Khng came in forth for the Optimist race. She was the only sailor that returned without a medal, all the others did, including a record 5 precious gold medals.

But Griselda never gave up hope and as her mother, Sharon recalled, Griselda was "still filled with confidence, as if nothing has happened" after the Asiad.

Just earlier this week, Griselda became the World Optimist Champion in Uruguay She also won the team racing championship and overall team trophy along with four of her teammates as well as an overall silver at the World Championships.

If Singapore can continue to produce young athletes with such qualities, we can look forward to a better sports future. Kudos to Singapore Sailing!

    Yes, that's nice.

But maybe this should have been placed in another part of the forum?

not really so. cos e description of the chit chat forum is "Come here for all off-topic discussions!" so this thread is definitely in the correct place.

it definitely isnt easy to be the odd one out, not taking home any medals. its good to see her recover and bounce back so strongly

Don't worry, especially in the west world, it's not an especially popular thing. It's solo sailing in small sail boats usually with a single mast. Think of basically a bathtub with a sail on it and you're pretty close. The amazing thing is that during these competitions they are taking these small boats and up to something like 40mph bouncing off waves and stuff.

Default Picture of Griselda in Doha waters

I manged to take a pic of 15-year-old Singapore Sports School student Griselda Khng in her Optimist class sail boat from "Today", Dec 15, 2006.

Her recent World Championships wins in Uruguay (International Optimist Dinghy Association World Championship 2006)will probably be her last as she will move up to the 420 women's class this year.

Here's how she and her boat look like:
