    Default Grip size

    Hi everyone,

I'm not new to badminton. In fact, I've been playing for almost 15 years. Lately, my coach told me my grip was a little bit too big so I tried to take off my original grip. Now, there's only an overgrip on my raquet.

I feel like I have more "punch" in my shots. I wonder if that happened to anyone... However, I'm having some trouble with my precision and my shot angles. I'm also having trouble returning smashes close to the net.(I play mostly simple so I return almost every smashes in drops)

I have a long and thin hand. I wonder if that happened to someone else and what fixed it. time ? bigger grip ?

    1) Practice having a relaxed grip

    2) keep practising those shot in routines!!

It doesn't matter what size grip you have as long as you are comfortable in it...IMO anyways. I used to play just one overgrip on the wood and I felt there was more power in my racquet, but it was at the expense of my hand bleeding during a long tournament. I added another overgrip on, and although the racquet doesn't have much 'punch' to it, it still feels better for my control and my smashes are roughly the same as they were with just the one overgrip. I think there is a limit to how big a grip should be though, as it affects the balance of the racquet. My friend has 1 original grip + 4 overgrips on his racquet =O

I've tried looking at some of the better players locally and they seem to have very small diameter grips. Even for bigger players they seem to have what looks like a G5 + one layer of overgrip. I was thinking this is good for maneuvering the racket and being able to feel the edges.

On the other hand, watching videos of the pros with towel grips. They seem to have huge diameter grips that also blur handles edges. That doesn't seem to stop them. The BC grip guide shows quite a large diameter rounded towel grip too.

    Any thoughts on this?

I am currently using G4 grip with original cushion grip, and 2 layers of overgrip (1/8" overlap on wrapping).
