A jump smash will look its best when the picture is taken at the "decisive moment". This is not easy to capture with a still camera. In videos you can always "freeze" the "decisive moment" frame, which is where the climax of the jump smash is all about. In cameras the time lag between youe eyes and brain and the instant the image is captured requires great anticipation. A "decisive moment" picture will always have a distinct center of interest, which make contact with us.

i really really really like wong choong hann's picture. looks like a superhero of some sort. more so because of the contrast of his shirt's color with B&W surroundings.

Great shots lurker!
Allow me to post mine taken during the same event. I was seated beside the competitors but do not have the photographer's pass for me to creep near the court for a better angle. Anyone has got the connections for this coming World Championship in KL?! Can be your assistant "porter"grapher.........

Just want to commend your work. Really good stuff. Your editing is very clean and the concept gives a different character to the pictures. Hope you don't mind my asking, but did you use Photoshop for this?

yeah.. there is definitely post editing work done on the pictures
this helps to bring the viewers focus on the shuttler only removing the distracting and often very colorful BG

Basicly.. do this:
1) Duplicate layer
2) Ctrl+shift+U ( desaturate )
3) Use the polygonial-lasso tool to carefully select the body of the player and press delete.
-Or use the rubber tool to erase the black-and-white body.
You'll then end up with those appealing images with black/white backgrounds.

-This one works as an advertisement for Yonex.. basicly all the Yonex stuff are highlighted.

Of course, Reiko will be Reiko
But, in the other picture, it looks as if the players have turned blue from poisoning
