I just bought a wood Yonex Carbonex 3 racket.
It is brand new, unstrung and never been strung before.
Can any of you guys advise me on the string tension that I should put on this thing?
    Thanks lots guys!!

    PS. Errr.... modious, Byro-Nenium, Blitz, |r|s and Gladius...... don't ask!! : )

Wahh ... ! You got too much space to hang your racket man!

Be careful though, wooden rackets need a frame to hold the racket in shape when put in storage or else it will warp. It applies to strung rackets only of course.

Think you can ask the shop owner at Kemin or an old school teacher of mine who used a wooden racket to beat the @!#$ out of a lot of people back then !

I'd like to know how much your Cab 3 weighs. Could you weigh it for me? TIA

PS. And I hope you will give a thourough report on how it performs! DS

Sorry cos' I don't have a weighing scale at home.
But I will weigh it when I have a chance!
But guys, I don't intend to play with it.
Actually my girlfriend bought it for me cos' she knows that I'm nuts about the game and will collect these stuff.
I already strung it with BG65 at 18 lbs.
Feels #$%#@ loose compared to my other rackets strung between 24-26 lbs!!
Maybe I'll bring it to our next game session and hit a couple of birdies with it.
After that, it will hang on my wall for good. : )

Hmmm... Does anyone know why it's called "Carbonex" although it's a wooden racquet from the pre-graphite days?

A wooden racquet? Like to buy a pair of plimsoles, Fred Perry shorts and some Brylcreem to go with it?

    Graphite coated shaft I think.

Tony, if you hang it up on the wall, will you be cutting the strings first to minimise warping of the racquet?

It says "Carbonex 3 Carbon Coated Shaft" on the shaft and B-9300 on the cap above the handle.

Cheung's got a very good point! Maybe I should cut the strings when I finally decide the hang it on my wall.

I did not remove the plastic wrapping on the handle but I wrapped a thin overgrip over it just in case I decide to sell it next time.
Hmmm..... how much do you guys think it can fetch in 10 years' time? US$100? US$200? : )

Sneer all you want, but I'm trying to picture what it was like to play back in the days of wooden racquets. Presumably they're a lot heavier than today's racquets and takes less string tension... so the game was much slower, and control would have been a key issue and the rallies must have been much longer... Back in the days of Tjun Tjun, Rudy Hartono, Svend Pri and Fleming Delfs...

perhaps snook sneers because he/she has nothing better 2 do than criticise and sneer at others. feel sadness for this person not anger

I'll give you 1 dollar because it has been used!!

Seriously, it might keep it's value longer if kept unstrung and kept in the wooden press.
