I saw my friends play that Sealion shuttles in high school...Then while break time, I ask my friend how durable it is... He say it is very durable...I never played that brand before...So I don't know...Can anyone tell me whether is it true??
The Sea Lion brand is quite good. Problem is there are alot of 'fake' Sea Lions in the market. So that kinda make people think the quality isn't consistent.
Quite a few ppl at our badminton club use Sea Lion Black Label Birds - Speed 77 (they're the only IBF approved Sea Lion Feather birds i'm aware of). They're about $20-22 Canadian per tube. Most of us find the birds very consistent in flight and consistent in quality from one tube/batch to the next. Also they make out as decent warm up birds. I'm not too big on Victor Blues. I've found the quality of the birds to be inconsistent and have gone somewhat downhill... Other birds that i've enjoyed using: Aeroplane Black, Sosan Black, RSL Gold and RSL (black tube with green font).... all nice birds..
I demoed three gardes of these shuttles and found them all pretty bad when it came to durability. I still tend to stick with Hi-Qua blue. Still one of the best shuttles for the money, though I keep hearing that the Chester shuttles are also very good. I have to say that the tube of Sosan Blacks I got from Woodchuck have been very good shuttles.
The Chester has real cork Vs. Sosan's hybrid. But Sosan's 78 is actually 79 or 80. I suggest you use Chester in the surrounding area of Calgary since it flies slower than Sosan for the same speed.
The Chester shuttle is identical to the HiQua Red which is superior to the Blue. Chester is the brother of William of HiQua. And yes, the Chester shuttle (HiQua Red) is an excellent shuttle.
Ahhh, now it all comes clear. William never mentioned his brother's name. I've kept with the blue as it's more likely they have the right speed. The last batch of blues I received were excellent, give or take the odd shuttle. The club in my little town now plays with HQ-blue shuttles. I tend to order 70 tubes of the blue dyed ones for my tourney - last year they were on par with AS-40. Never seen the Sosan blacks being used in calgary. I keep that tube along with a tube of Kason shuttles for my trips to Vancouver.
switched from sealion black (77) to aeroplane red (77) as the sealion always seems to go a bit too speedy when its flesh then droped down to normal speed after a little usage aeroplane red seems to give a more stable speed overall given that they are in close price range.
there are a lot of imitatations in the market. what i experienced is that the sealion shuttlecocks speed are irregular. therefore, i suspect they are fakes.
Anyone knows how to tell the fakes? Bought 1 tube from a reputable shop to try but quality is poor. The feathers are thinner and inferior to Aeroplane Red.
yes, that's the problem. i guess the current sea lion shuttlecocks are produced at the same batch which have thinner feathers. it is lighter too and goes out from baseline easily. i don't know it is manufacturing effect or fakes.
i know of a badminton player that uses sealion (used to use RCL till price went up in malaysia) now he uses sealion. from my experience playing with him, sealion are not durable. they do seem a little on the light side and looking at the shuttle, they do not seem to be "quality" shuttles. maybe it is because of the grade he bought which i dunno what grade it is(but other shuttles brand of different grade has nice looking feathers so iono). the last reason i might attribute it to is because he got it in malaysia and brought it over to US so maybe the shuttle grade have gone down due to change in weather (moist in malaysia to dry in US)
Nothing to do with the weather. I experienced the same in hot and humid Singapore. I would rate Sealion Black to be worse than even Aeroplane Green. Both I consider about the same light weight and thin feathers. At least Green last longer and flys better. For the SGD 22 I paid, I rather buy Aeroplane Red or RSL Tourney No 1 .
