I'm going to be in Melbourne in 3 weeks, for a period of 4-6 weeks on a business trip. Where can I find places to drop in to play some intermediate/advanced badminton games?

    Thanks

    Hi,
I am 14 and I'm looking for a suitable badminton club to play in. I've heard people talking about grades (a,b,c,d) but I have no idea what grade I am in. Will this club be suitable for me or am I too young?
    Thanks!

    Hi Natalle,

We do not have an age restriction at our club. However the few under 18 year old players who play at our club are quite strong. That is they are able to effectively play with adult C grade players. Without seeing you play I am unable to grade your standard.

The grades (Open, A, B, C and D) are a broad indication of the level of skill of a player. This will give you a indication :

Open : Able to compete at least on a state level, almost professional standard
A grade : have trained and played for at least 5 years
B grade : have trained and played for at least 3 years
C grade : have played for about 3 years
D grade : have played for less than 3 years

Note that the above is only a guide which I have just made up, there is no standard except to compare players of a similar standard. I have found that to move up in the grade you must play and train with players at and higher than your level. If you do not do this you will stay at that grade no matter how long you have played. I have assumed this in the above grading description. I cannot stress this enough as I see many players at various clubs staying at C or D grade permanantly for this very reason.

The best way to determine if a club is right for you is to try it out. You are most welcome to join us at our club.

    Regards
    Ashley

Thanks for the PDF, but can you re-generate it with the columns re-sized? The "location" column gets cut off and I can't read the entire locations...
