Welcome to CCC Badminton Club @Waverley

     CCC was formed in the hope that it will help more people enjoy playing Badminton

    We are proud that we have players from many countries all around the world

    and

    We are proud that we have players ranging from Beginners to Advanced Level

    CCC Shuttlecocks Policy

    Members@CCC have to remember this:
    Our players' charges are dependent on our club's expenses.

    If we spend more on the use of shuttles, the cost will be passed on to the our players
    .

    So, at the end of your game, if the shuttle is still good, place that good shuttle under the net, in the middle of the court
    .

    The next lot of players should warm up with older shuttles from the tray.

    When they are ready to start their game, they should then use that good shuttle that is placed under the net, in the middle of the court.

    About one hour+ by public transport from Southern Cross. Train towards Glen Waverley station and bus which stops at Cathies Lane. You'd need to walk quite a bit down to get there.

    This is Zone 2 according to the Melbourne Public transport zone system.

    Or 40 minutes drive :)

    How does our CCC Handicapped Games/Competition system work

    Greetings,

    Many have asked me “How does your CCC Handicapped Games/Competition system work?

    Below is the answer.

    ====== start answer ======

    Firstly, the competition is a perpetual one, continuing forever. And movement of handicapped points are by 2 points at a time.

    Let me first explain for the Singles Game. (And we play under the WBF New Scoring System).

    We first give to all new players, Staring Point(SP)= Zero.

    So, when 2 players, (A & B, say) first enter the Competition, each will start with Staring Point(SP) of zero.

    When A & B play each other, it's Love-all... their game is like a normal game.

    If A beats B, then A will have an attained SP=-2, and B's SP=+2.

    If they play each other again, their starting score for their game will be A(Love):B(4), ie A has to give B a 4-point start, 4 being -2 minus +2.

    If A beats B again, then A will have an attained SP=-4, and B's SP=+4.
    And if they play each other again, their starting score for their game will be A(Love):B(8), ie A has to give B a 8-point start, 8 being -4 minus +4.

    But we encourage our players to mix around and play against everyone.

    So if A now plays C(let's say, C's SP=-8), their starting score for the game will be A(4):C(Love), ie C has to give A a 4-point start, 4 being -8 minus -4.

    If A beats C, then A will have an attained SP=-6, and C's SP=-6.
    If they play each other again, their starting score for their game will be Love-all, ie no handicap given.

    But if B wants to play C, their starting score for the game will be B(10):C(Love), ie C has to give B a 10-point start, 10 being -6 minus +4.

    We set limits to the SP's at -8 and +8.

    So when 2 players, X & Y, X with SP=-8 and Y with SP=+8, play each other, their starting score for their game will be X(Love):Y(16), ie X has to give Y a 16-point start, 16 being -8 minus +8, the maximum handicap.

    I devised this system because I do not want our stronger players to muck about with our weaker players.

    And this system will allow a more challenging game for the stronger player, to keep his/her interest up.

    To the weaker players, they should find that the system will give them an indication on their progress in Badminton over the months/years of play. But this is subject to how true/honest a play that we get out of our stronger players. I usually encourage our stronger players not to muck about when they play at CCC. They should show respect to our weaker players by playing their best, with the exception of no aggressive smashes at weaker ladies.

    But to administer the CCC Handicapped Games/Competition can be hard work. Wait till I get to explain the Doubles Games/Competition, as I will do now.

    Let me first explain that the SP is like an identifying number for each player. And let us look at 4 players with different SP's, say A(-8), B(-4), C(0) and D(+8).

    So if A partners B, their SP will be -6, calculated by (-8 plus -4) divided by 2.
    And C and D will have an SP of +4, calculated by (0 plus +8) divided by 2.

    So if they play each other, their starting score for the game will be A&B(Love):C&D(10), ie A&B have to give C&D a 10-point start, 10 being -6 minus +4.

    And if team A&B wins, then A&B will have an attained SP=-8, and C&D's SP=+6. And I hope that they will continue to play as fixed pairs until the end of the night. This is because of the recalculation that I have to do when their partnerships dissolve.

    Let us say that for the game above, A&B beating C&D, was the last game of the night. So, how do I recalculate their individual SP's before the start of our next session?... I will explain below;

    Firstly, let me remind you of their original SP's, A(-8), B(-4), C(0) and D(+8).

    Because A&B won their game, their SP(combined) has improved from -6 to -8. So, A and B should move to -10 and -6 respectively. But, of course you remember that we have set a limit of -8, so their final SP's will be -8(for A, remaining the same) and -6(for B).

    Similarly, C&D having lost their game, their SP(combined) has gone down from +4 to +6. So, C and D should move down to +2 and +10 respectively. But, again you remember that we have set a limit of +8, so their final SP's will be +2(for C) and +8(for D, remaining the same).

    ====== end answer ======

    I hope that my answer/explanation above is clear. :):):)

    Cheers... chris@ccc

    I wonder whether post #7 should be mandatory reading for people who come to friday nite first time. Maybe, the friday night post before the session can include a link to this particular post.

    Participation@CCC could be 'Exclusive' sooner than later

    Greetings,

    We posted this subect in another CCC thread.

    But I thought I should post it here too.

    ====== start subject ======

    Yes, I have been thinking about this... :):):)

    As the attendance of our players@CCC increases, CCC will need to become a privileged club, and here is the reason;
    For a particular night/session, as you would have heard me saying again and again, when our attendace reaches 32, we will have to become exclusive and privileged.

    I still remember when you suggested to me 'When we get to be overcrowded, only then we should start thinking of what to do'.

    Well, I have thought about it and I thought that I should have a tentative plan... and now that you have brought up this subject matter, so here is IT: Players@CCC who just come to play and who has no feeling of concern for CCC will be the first to be asked to leave.

    Just last night, 2 members informed us that because they will be likely to come less regularly, they have opted not to become members@ccc but just want to become casual visitors.

    And this saddened me... because they thought that CCC will always be there for them when they wish to attend, but they did not think that CCC requires their participation if CCC is to continue to operate/exist.

    So here is another clearer definition/policy of our CCC Club.

    ====== end subject ======

    Cheers... chris@ccc

    Why CCC designed the CCC Handicapped Games ?

    Greetings,

    Here I responded to yschin's comments relating to CCC Badminton Club...

    I would like to explain...

    One of the reasons why CCC Badminton was founded is because I believe it's time for Melbourne to have a 'Community/Social Badminton Club'.

    Melbourne has too many 'Segregation Badminton Clubs', and I find that 'Segregation Badminton Clubs' are just NOT FRIENDLY ENOUGH.

    And, as you have put it, in 'Segregation Badminton Clubs' "stronger players tend to play among themselves" and "weaker or beginners confine to a court all by themselves".

    As you know, I am well known in Badminton in Melbourne because I visit many Badminton Clubs. In fact I have been members(not just casual visitors) of many of them. And I am still currently members of many clubs, even though I find that I frequent them seldom nowadays since I started CCC Badminton. I still like to be treated as part of their families and therefore I decide to continue to pay for my memberships.

    Fortunately I am a skilled player. And they treat me with great respect and with tremendous friendliness.

    But unfortunately, they are 'Segregation Badminton Clubs'.

    So what's wrong with that, you may ask...

    Well, the answer/reason is I find problem/discrimination against my lower skilled friends, who are non-members of the clubs concerned, but they want to come play with me just to pass time.

    And you will be quite shocked to hear that I have been told "How can you bring this friend of yours when he/she is of such low skilled level of play?".

    I find this quite upsetting. :mad::mad::mad:

    Yes, you may say that those clubs have the right to choose whoever they like (based on skills) but I find it detrimental to the promotion of Badminton, a sport I dearly wish to promote.

    I devised our CCC Handicapped Games so that everyone@CCC can play against each other, regardless of their skill levels.

    And I have heard from our stronger players@CCC that it is not easy to win a game against weaker players if the weaker players have 16 points start. And this I like... because it now offers a challenge to our stronger players@ccc.

    It's like you and me, partnering in Doubles, asking Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, if they can beat us if they give us 16 points start.

    However, my suggestion that a player of a particular skill should form a Doubles Partnership with another player of about the same skill is because I think that it is very unfair when opponents keeping hitting shots to the weaker player and leave the stronger player out of the game.

    The stronger player of the Partnership just doesn't enjoy it.

    Cheers... chris@ccc

    The 2 reasons why we categorise our players@ccc

    Greetings,

    A member@ccc asked:

    Why do we categorise our players of CCC@Waverley into 3 Sections for Friday Nights ?

    Wouldn't it encourages segregation
    ?

    Answer: There are 2 reasons why we categorise our players@ccc.

    (1) Because we encourage players@ccc to form Doubles Partnerships with other players of about the same skill level...... players@ccc can see clearer now, with whom suitable partners are available for them.

    For more explanation for why we encourage players of the same skill level to form partnerships, please read the second part of Post #12 of this thread.

    Our CCC Handicapped Games are designed in the hope to create all games getting to 20-all when weaker partnerships play against stronger ones, without the latter mucking about with the former.

    (2) Because we want to make it easier for team captains/organsiers to select/organise appropriate players, without bias/prejudice, when they are to form teams playing against other clubs in Friendly Matches, and/or, to form teams playing amongst ourselves in our CCC League Games.

    It is pointless/meaningless to organise matches/games when their results are "too predictable".

    We hope to get feedbacks from players@ccc on this matter.

    Cheers... chris@ccc

    CCC Badminton will continue to welcome new players until further notice

    Greetings,

    Below, is a message that was posted in our Friday thread on Monday 9-July-2007.

    I thought I will post it here... for all our CCC members and visitors to be informed.

    ============ start message ============

    Our CCC Badminton plays Social Badminton, 7:30pm-10:00pm, every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

    At the moment, we are still available for all players, members and visitors, for all our sessions.

    In our other earlier posts, we stated that we would not exceed 8 Social Players per court.

    We have 4 courts. So when our membership reached 32, we thought we better stop inviting more players.

    However, we now learned that most our members do not play as often as we thought they would/should. And some of them only play on a particular night and not on others.

    So...... it now stands that CCC Badminton will continue to welcome new players until further notice. :):):)

    Cheers... chris@ccc

    Our dream@CCC Badminton Club

    Greetings,

    We have posted this message in another of our threads, and we thought we will post it here too...

    ============ start message ============

    Greetings,

    As a Badminton Coach and a Badminton Promoter, I have this dream... :):):)

    Our CCC Badminton Club is to be promoting all 5 events, namely;
    (1) Mens Singles
    (2) Womens Singles
    (3) Mens Doubles
    (4) Womens Doubles, and
    (5) Mixed Doubles

    With more males than females playing @CCC at the present moment, we know that it would/could not happen in 2007.

    And in 2007, with most of our male members not fit enough, we have been playing mainly Mens Doubles.

    But we hope that by 2010, we could have enough male and female players to satisfy the dream of our CCC Badminton Club, that is to be playing all of the 5 events mentioned above. :):):)

    How lucky to play at CCC ?

    Greetings,

    We have posted this message in another one of our threads, and we thought we will post it here too.

    ============ start message ============

    When we started CCC, I thought I would/could pay back to badminton what I have taken from it.

    So, I thought about my experience as a qualified coach, as a skilled player, as an official grader, as a social creature loving parties, wine-and-dine, other social functions, etc..., as a club organiser of structured Badminton events, and as one who do discourages the segregation of players.

    It was hoped that all these qualities could be used by/for CCC.

    What we found is that not every member@ccc wants what is there that CCC can offer. :):):)

    1. Some never wanting to improve or train. For them, they don't know how lucky that CCC has a qualified coach.

    2. Some never wanting to play competition. For them, they don't know how lucky that CCC has a skilled player and an official grader to guide them through competition.

    3. Some never wanting to socialise. For them, they don't know how lucky that CCC has supper after each session, different social functions/gatherings for different occasions, etc...

    4. Some never wanting to participate in organised and structured events. For them, they don't know how lucky that CCC takes time to organise Handicapped Games, League Games, Friendly Matches, etc...

    5. Some never wanting to be immodest. For them, they don't know how lucky that CCC makes sure that segregation of players is not allowed.

    ============ end message ============

    However, we sincerely hope that our players@ccc could make use of some of those attributes that CCC can offer. :):):)

    Cheers... chris@ccc

    Hi there,

    My name is Sean and I like playing badminton very much. My girlfriend and I are very interested in joining your club so I would like to ask some questions first. Do you still accept new members? How to join the club and how much are the fees? Since we have not bee playing for a long time so we are actually beginners, is that a problem?

    Thank you for your time.
