    Hi,

I just got a Powerball. Anybody have a good exercise routine/regime that helps for badminton players?

Start up the PB and go through the range of motion, the natural strokes you do in badminton, slowly, while rotating the PB: overhead, drop, clear, backhand drive, clear, etc... add footwork if you want too. Also vary the way you hold the ball, finger tips, palms, emphasis on certain fingers, etc...

Sigh this would be great, but we can't let dink play. He'd probably go through a fortune with powerballs next.

For routines, I like to just hold the pb upside down and do wrist rotations. Not really into do stroke motions with it because it seems to always want to slip away, dang sweaty hands.

Yes, it's good for strengthening your wrist.

    Injury is minimal to non-existent.

i would say it exercises your forearms muscles well, as the power generated in the powerball is 95% from the wrist/forearm muscles

youtube it man, have a look at it

powerball is those hand held ball that has a spinning wheel inside
U have to keep moveing your wrist to keep the wheel inside spinning
once it goes really fast u will have a hard time keeping your grip on the ball
cos the wheel inside create centribital force the faster u spinn it.
its generally use to train wrist strength
i've used it before and fact is it does effectively tire my wrist and forarm,
so it serve its purpose and u do get the exercise from this device.. but does it really train the right muscles that is actually in use for badminton that i don't know..

It's pretty cool. Get one that can read out the rpm's.

I find that my forearms do get a good workout, but the vibrations that it gives off hurt my wrist a little bit. This probably because I bought cheap knockoff to save 10 bucks. Alas, I prefer to use a piece of wood/pipe with rope through it and weight at the end of it.

Another good exercise is to buy a 5lbs or 10lb hex dumbell. Hold it from the top (vertical) and make it rotate by only using your finger tips (without dropping it on your toes of course ;) ).

There's no question the powerball can build strength in various parts, just as there is no question that lifting a brick can build strength in various parts. But the powerball is more novel and will hold your interest a couple of days longer than a brick would. In the end, it is neither the powerball, nor the brick that would build your strength, but it is the will in you.

    I'd say buy a squashracket..I have both a powerball and a squasher...

the pwoerball si great if you want to prevent the average "computer injury's" or build up a massive wrist...
the squashing racket (or training racket) trains your badminton-specific muscles more...my backhand drive ahs improved miles!
