# Thread: shuttlecock speed

1. ## shuttlecock speed

Hello Everybody
when the speed of shuttlecock is measured ?? right after hitting , above net ??
and what is a speed of bird right before receiving ? is it o half of hitting speed or maybe more ? anybody knows ?

2. The highest speed recorded is measured immediatley after contact on a smash, currently its over 330km/h. The speed over the net/or at point of recieving would depend on where and how the shuttle was struck from and too.

To measure if a shuttle is of the correct speed for the playing conditions you should stand on the baseline and strike the feather underarm as far as you can, the correct speed shuttle will land within 20cm of the opponents double service line.

up to 19cm beyond the far edge of the double service line, and no less than 23cm short of the near edge of the double service line

if my maths is correct, according to diagram B in this pdf

yes, it's correct.
One weakness of this testing method i find is that not all the players are able to impact the shuttle with consistent force or angle
