I practiced prestringing with an old racket, and found that the string gets really coiled and l twisted. I was practising with some ashaway a-65 which are pretty soft. and the string actually got so twisted up that when i tried to tension it...it broke  . Is there any way to prevent this?? Thanks for your replies in advance.

Yes, do search. Also, if the string is twisting, you need to move the string back and forth until it untwists.
