What is your opinion about badminton quality in my country ( Russia :) )?
I know, it's not really good, however, there are some good players : Pukhov, Karachkova, Russkikh... What can you say about them? :p

i think ella's a good player, still needs a bit of work to trouble the top players, but she's improved a lot recently and has potential ....

i'm not too familiar with the others you mentioned though ...

Of course. Badminton becomes more and more popular in Russia, however, you can't find a lot of information about it in mass media - the magazines and newspapers don't write anything about it; badminton matches are shown on TV very seldom... But I believe, in the next 10 years it will become as popular as, for example, football and basketball.=)

Losing now is ok.. Important is train hard for future.. Good players learnt from losing too. Good luck to Russia players.. I'm proud that badminton is the fastest racket sport.

I saw some/a lot of russian player, and Ukrainian players at this Dutch Junior Open.

i'd say they play excellent. They all play a simple error-free no-nonsense game, with a good pace as well. But their style is horrible...some actually panhandle, or swing really rusty...but they would kick my ass (mostly, I might have a shot against 2-3..but theck, they're the national selection of russia!)

they're the best players with the weirdest style I've ever seen:eek: Haven't seen much of the seniors though..

How can you say Russian players are not good when Ella is No 21? in the world although she has just lost in 1st round in Swiss this afternoon. It is a pity Elena Sukhareva has retired as she moved very well over the court and was good to watch and good competition for Ella K. Zuev and Pukhov were very interesting to watch because of their aggresve style. Ella K is a lovely girl and always takes time to talk to familiar faces which many young players could learn from. Anastasia Russkikh is entertaining to watch in level dbls by the way she anticipates shots. Vislova has a weird style with her rolling head and the way she wraps the racket around her head when defending. The future is bright if the youngsters have the desire to put in the hard work. There are Russian websites that give info. badm.ru and badminton.ru

Keep working hard and one day you can be there

Ella is probably the most agile (non-chinese ethnicity) european woman-by that I mean smooth movement and quick direction changes.

Not the most powerful or fastest though.

I watched her game on and off against niemenen in AE2007. She definitely has the potential to break into the second tier players behind CHN WS. not sure if she is up to matching CHN players, but with a little better tactical approach to the game and consistency of simply strokes, she could be up there.

maybe we need something totally different to break china domination;)
Ex. if their stroke is so different, it would be hard to read into by asian players: advantage russian.

I agree, Russian players' game style is quite different from others'. But I don't think it's bad. Their game gets more difficult to understand, so, it's harder to play against them.
However, it is MY personal opinion... ^.^

    From my own experience...

...i would say they have some interesting & intriguing talents..You can read more abt their performance in last yr's U.S. Open in this link, which they, to put it mildly, dominated the competition:cool: :

Anyone have any video of Russian players to share?

I'd like to see this 'different technique'.
