    hello all,

over the years many have complained about the quality of the search engine in BC. i have just added an alternative search engine which is provided by Google. hopefully this will make searching easier and encourage users to search before they create new topics.

you can find the new search engine in the same dropdown menu as the old search.

    cheers.

    FANTASTIC...finally!!!...

 ...ah, finally, it's about time(yes, i was one of the member who mentioned that issue-hehe:p)..although, i personally would like to see one of those large Search feature, similar to Google's or Yahoo!'s, somewhere near the top of the page, so people can just type it in there...

there are other nice things about this search engine. firstly, it is really fast, much faster than the old engine running on the server. secondly, it unloads the server as the actual search is performed by google.

i encourage everyone to try it out.

    *tries it out*

Not bad, not bad at all. Thanks for the addition.

Of course, as a nitpicky social/environmental activist, I'd advise the use of http://www.goodsearch.com

    But that's just me :D

Yeah, but in the old days we didn't have so many specialised forums.
I still like searching just in a single sub-forum.
I don't suppose Google can do that, can it?

    that's true. it probably won't.

everyone has the option of using either one, so pick your favorite one to use. :)

I also much prefer the hit list from the BC search. The extra information you get is quite useful (when you've been around a long time): Thread starter, number of posts, etc

But then, I usually search for something I already know is in here, and the advanced search by user returning a post list is also useful in that regard.

and I'm too old to change my ways ;)

    ^^Maybe it will be available..^^

..yes, the original Advanced Search feature(w/ the original thread starter, no. of posts infos etc.) has its own advantages...Perhaps after some more tinkering, kwun will finally unveil the "Ultimate BC Search" feature that will have the following:
    1) Capabilities of using an independent search platform/server, ala Google search, but..
    2) Still able to incorporate some of the original Advanced Search features..
    ;) :D [IMG]

Regarding links and other objects posted in a particular thread

Regarding links and other objects posted in a particular thread Hey kwun,

It would be nice if there was way people can track down, like a drop down list, sorted with user posted, date added and other ways to select just all the links (websites, video audio files, pictures) posted in a thread.

Its kinda hard for someone to search for each link esp., in the video sharing section, the hotspot of BC, to scroll and click each page to find that it doesn't work or is expired, search for an other one and so on..

I hope I made you understand the usefullness of my suggestion.

    Regards

u have my support,my man. It's harder than it sounds,to search through tens or hundreds of pages for something that we'd like to know or get, which makes ppl remaking the same threads,or requesting the same things.

Yeah, unluckily all of my prior requests went unnoticed. I made a similar requests past two years.

I believe BC doesn't recommend attracting more people with more easier ways to just download and stop uploading at all. Yay, you are my first supporter.

Unfortunately BC is limited by the capabilities of the software, and the time availability of our leader Kwun. If the software cannot operate this request it is impossible. If it does, then it may mean a lot of time for kwun to integrate this into the current program.
