I Women's Doubles 5/8 Gail Emms/Donna Kellogg, ENG, saw an early exit
from the event as they lost in straight games 21-15, 21-15 in 30 minutes
    to Greysia Polii/Vita Marissa, INA.
Polii/Marissa will face Nicole Grether/Juliane Schenk, GER in the
    quarterfinal Friday.

In Women's Singles the only three Europeans, Pi Hongyan, FRA, seeded
5/8, Yao Jie, NED, seeded 5/8 and Xu Huaiwen, GER, seeded 3/4, all made
it through to the quarterfinals Friday. Pi and Xu both eliminated
Japanese opponents in two games. Pi Hongyan beat Kaori Mori 21-16, 21-6
in a match were the two kept showing each other just how big the court
is! It was an incredible performance from two very slim and fit girls,
    both with incredible stamina.
Pi continued her good play that last week made her runner-up at the All
England. In the quarterfinal she will face Zhang Ning, CHN, seeded 1 at
this event. Their latest encounter was in the semifinal at last weeks
All England, a match Pi won in three exciting and tight games!
Xu Huaiwen, GER, needed 46 minutes before she had won in straight games
21-16, 21-16 over Eriko Hirose, JPN. She, like Pi, is in terrific form
at the moment. In the quarterfinal she will face Yao Jie, NED, who in
her match today showed excellent play beating Yip Pui Yin, HKG 21-16, 21-12.
The biggest surprise in Women's Singles was the exit of the number 2
seed Wang Chen, HKG. She lost in three games to Hwang Hye Youn, KOR,
15-21, 21-12, 17-21, in 52 minuttes. In the quarterfinal she will stand
opposite Jiang Yanjiao, CHN, who beat local girl Jeanine Cicognini, SUI,
    in three games 12-21, 21-7, 21-15.

3 players coming through are still in the event: In Men's Singles Shoji
Sato, JPN (Q), beat Chetan Anand, IND, 21-14, 21-14. Also through from
qualifying was Jiang Yanmei/Hendra Wijaya, SIN (Q) who beat K.
Voravichitchaikul/S. Anugritayawon, THA, in 21-17, 21-16. Third party
coming from qualifying is Simon Santoso, INA, who beat Ronald Susilo,
    SIN, fairly comfortably 21-10, 21-16.

In Women's Doubles 5/8 seed Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia, SIN, beat Endang
Nursugianti/ Rani Mundiasti, INA, 21-15, 21-15. Tomorrow they stand
opposite Chien Yu Chin/Cheng Wen Hsing, TPE, who today beat the young
    Russians Nina Vislova/Valeri Sorokina.
The Bulgarians Petya Nedeltcheva/Diana Dimova lost in two games 10-21,
14-21 to Lee Kyung Won/Lee Hyo Jung, KOR. They were dissapointment in
the Bulgarians faces after the match but their coach vere fairly
satisfied "They were tired, playing three events in a row is too much.
We now have a months time before we go to the next event". Lee/Lee will
tomorrow face Duang Anong Aroonkesorn/Kunchala Voravichitchaikul, THA.
The Thai had it easy tonight, as they are through on a walkover since
their opponents Zhang Yawen/Wei Lili, CHN had to withdraw because of Wei
    being injured.

The Men's Doubles event saw some powerful matches today, and the seeded
pairs all went through. Last weeks winners at the All England, Koo Kien
Keat/Tan Boon Heong, MAS, beat Chien Yu Hsun/Lin Yu Lang, TPE 21-15,
    14-21, 21-7 in just 32 minutes.
The institution Candra Wijaya/Tony Gunawan, INA/USA beat Lars
Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen, DEN in a catching and most entertaining match.
    Wijaya/Gunawan won 21-16, 17-21, 21-18. They will face Hendra
Gunawan/Joko Riyadi, INA in the quarterfinal Friday.
Also seeds 1 and 2 in the Men's Doubles event are through: 1 seed Fu
Haifeng/Cai Yun, CHN, beat Michal Logosz/Robert Mateusiak, POL, 21-12,
21-16 and will tomorrow face Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong, MAS. Number
2 seed Jens Eriksen/Martin Lundgaard, DEN, beat Hendra Kuniawan
Saputra/Hendra Wijaya, SIN fairly comfortable 21-12, 21-18. The Danish
Grand Old Men will Friday be up against Chan Hoon Ming/Hoon Thien How, MAS.
